    Ridiculous,IMHO.

But on the other hand, some have millions to throw around.
Yes, it doesn't make a lot of sense - I can only presume that they have a really huge amount of money and they're writing it off against a business. Some people I know just spent a little short of $7m on a house but I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't spend even $100k on a car. Another mate is a QC and his cars are nearly always second hand, including an old Camry at one point.

    Owns them all outright.

Lives in a property worth around $900K.

Daily driver is a 20yr old 100 series that was for sale on the side of the road.
Wife drives an old worn out 2002 Fairlane.

rubbish...every person I know considers Toyota reliability to be way above Land Rover....and it is.

for 8 yrs I fought off comments in the bush about my D2 and its perceived reliability issues.

now I have a Ford Ranger which is a 130 in disguise and it is accepted and it has cost me nothing in 4yrs while the D2 cost me $70,000 over 8yrs.

I grew up in Land Rovers and have driven them for over 60 yrs just to clarify things .

But let's be honest , they (defenders)were always thirsty, uncomfortable , noisy, hot, cold ,dusty, wet...and questioned reliability.

The new Defender will be 100% improvement on what it is replacing....all the things mentioned above will not exist...if some of you think those things are good you're crazy.

After this you may be able to include all the superlatives in one model

EDIT thinking more about this, i recon it would be close to $200K,lost in first 5 yrs.
Hopefully. I’d like to own a L405 some day Won’t be retro...
My current L322 depreciated 80% after 7 years at which point I bought it. I hope that trend continues.

I think almost all reliability issues get resolved by die hard owners.

All you vehemently pro Toyota guys bagging Defenders on the Land Rover forum, and in a new Defender thread, must really have a point to prove! ...Or do you really think you're going to convert us?

I would consider a base model I30 that come standard with sat nav, cruise control, reverse camera, parking sensors etc, etc with 5 year unlimited KM Warranty for $20K good value. I would consider a D5 to be an excellently engineered and built luxury vehicle - and worth the money for that type of car absolutely, but not value...
FYI a base model 18 D5 is like 66k+ onroads right, and has coils.

100k gets you a middle of the range D5 with air susp, more power, gadgets etc etc

    19 base model is 70k + onroads

And my LSE 93 RRC was over 100k in 1993 Won’t be retro... that was great value back then 26years ago.

Respectfully try and engineer, build, test etc a discovery 5 yourself for under 500k and ill be impressed.

    Base model D5 = value

But then again going up the model range of D5 you are also getting good value compared to a RRV if you want more features, value is in the eye of each buyer.

So the D5 is infact a suitsble tourer but it not cheap? Refer to post above they are probably the best combination fsmily tourer and value for money out there, Most dual income familys could go and get a base model, average income is $1200+ pw x2,
68 percent of au are fulltime and they average $1800+pw x2

Repayments are a small fraction of that income, with 3 year warranty.

D5 is attainable by most familys, Defender V2 will be attainable by most familys. Facts.

It will be a whole range of prices to suit just about everyone just like the D5
