EDIT thinking more about this, i recon it would be close to $200K,lost in first 5 yrs.

A 72 RRC was under 8k when new, they are now fetching over 50k in original nic.Taking into account inflation the original buyer if they did not sell it could sell it for the same price he bought it.

I bet blokes at the pub where paying out the guys forking out a massive 8k back in the 70s on a top of the line Rangie too saying as soon as you drive it out you will loose money bla bla

As above i proved the average family can, and easily.
Im happy to be corrected but people can chose to spend their money on whatever they like and the average au family income is more than enough to buy one new.

I grew up in Land Rovers and have driven them for over 60 yrs just to clarify things .

But let's be honest , they (defenders)were always thirsty, uncomfortable , noisy, hot, cold ,dusty, wet...and questioned reliability.

The new Defender will be 100% improvement on what it is replacing....all the things mentioned above will not exist...if some of you think those things are good you're crazy.

After this you may be able to include all the superlatives in one model

Toyotas are reasonably reliable for the car you get, basic, reasonably capable and everyones got one.

Landrovers are reasonably reliable for the car you get which is always best in class capable and special car both to look at and drive.

Both good cars but very different and both are reasonable reliable for what you get, however beauty is in the eye of the beholder so you can't say one is better that the other.

Most new cars won't give you any dramas in first 5 years, buy a second hand car after 20years hard use and you basically have to rebuild it.

Agree defender v2 will be way better, but i also respect others like bare bones everything and its good to know fenders are alloy as they will be around long after everything else is rusted, getting rebuilt by enthusiasts.

Having visited the Slovakian plant, I can tell you it is one of the most modern and futuristic plants I've ever been in. It's full of technology. We already have Discoveries coming from there that, right out of the gate, are coming with unbelievable quality. What we are also excited about in the Slovakia plant is the ability for JLR, if the volume is needed, to increase the size and capacity to almost double the 150,000-unit yearly capacity.

Dealers that I have talked to already have pretty solid order banks on Defender, and many of us, including myself, are ordering products for our own individual use and also to put away. And I don't do that very often. We sell a lot of great brands, but I am so excited about this product that I have one coming for myself.

Was catching up on today's posts....going to quote and comment on the 100k value proposition but you posted up nicely. Could not agree more. When I bought my d2 new for $42k on the road... 17 years ago that was reasonable value. Given the lack of inflation and reduced manufacturing costs how is $100k for D5 good value. I have looked at average weekly wages in that 17 years - based on that and without taking into account savings on robotic and mass production the base D5 air suspended (cause let's face it the coiler is not an offroader in independent suspension) should cost no more than $84k on the road.
