A 60 series tyre is low profile for a serious 4WD.

They don't bag and flex as well as a taller profile tyre when aired down so traction isn't as good, all things being equal.
Of course they work ok, but for off road and outback touring a taller sidewall is much nicer.


And on that note the current penchant for 50 series and lower profile tyres on any vehicle is crazy.
A harsh ride for a smidge better steering response that 99% of people don't even recognise or feel?
Australian roads are just too ordinary, too many pot holes and broken edges to justify having no sidewall height.
And if anyone thinks that to be a high performance tyre you must have a silly low profile just check out the sidewall height on an F1 car. (yes, I realise those tyres will change soon, but purely to reflect the marketing of modern cars! )

Saw many stock standard "pretenders" on north stradie recently including a low ptofile tyres 2018 rrs sdv6, at up everything, made the 79series look like boat anchors.

To be honest having driven a 16inch wheeled 35inch tyred RRC over very long distances, i would like something more in the middle, the defender pics above look spot on, their engineers are not dumb.

They look like medium profile tyres, certainly not low profile

They have to juggle a huge amount of factors

I think 65-70 is a good compromise.
Having driven 255/85's for years, yes, they flex a lot!

I'm actually thinking of 265/60-18's for the Disco just to try, the sidewall height ends up being the same as the stock 235/70-16.

Interestingly WRC rally tyres and production based Rallye/Raid tyres are all 60 profile these days.

I found the comments made by the USA LR director to offer up a few more "potential" clues on next steps. She said, "we want you to join us over the next year as ...." Tells me this is going to be a long slow pre-launch to build up interest and potential orders for 2020 by the sound of it. As well that we can expect to see more teasers like this, probably slowly shedding the camo-covers, from spots all around the world including Australia. Vis their targeted global market.

Could be a very long year for this thread.

Why the USA as first? Well its perfectly clear and LR has stated it "officially" on so many occasions now that the USA will be one of their major target markets. Given the broad spectrum pf purchasers in that wacky part of the world it will be fascinating to see how that all comes off.

I won't be surprised to see the mules in Australia in the first half of 19 with any luck

Let the time pass quickly until we can see the real thing and understand exactly what we may be putting an order on

More clues, hows the approach and departure stack up on competition?

People do realise that it’s a test mule and could possibly be completely different... Many times Land Rover have used an existing body to test new suspension, engines, etc.
Can’t wait to see some real pictures though
