It still wouldn't get to the engine, in both of the videos posted the water goes over the bonnet a fair bit.
Pretty good design don't you think they could have been like everyone else and just had it sucking from the air box and flood the engine at the sight of water.

I dunno about the intake, not really a fan of it for a defender or even a disco. Good for a RR that MIGHT go off the bitumen once or twice a decade 🤣🤣 But for a tourer or a hardcore 4x4 that pushes the boundries a RAISED intake well above the drivers head is a must for many reasons.
Im sure there would be an aftermarket one eventually if possible but if not I can see it causing problems for them.
Not shunning the idea its quite smart actually for an SUV but not a utilitarian

Any deeper wading and they would float. In standard form imo they would reach the cape without water reaching the engine, I don't know of any other 4bys that could claim that.

Imo a snorkel could be added through the d5 or New defender side vents easily, however imo, its simply not needed.

In regards to new landrovers going offroad once a decade, this forums full of people that would counter that. Also I'm sure people said exactly the same thing regarding the original Range Rover classic, when comparing it to the series defender.

In regards to also not being utilitarian, I would say that in fact this design is extremely utilitarian and it goes above and beyond It's competition even the ones that come out of the factory with a (fake) snorkel.

It's different but it seems to work extremely well so credit where credits due

Found these, pretty good photoshop showing what is possible under the wrap.

If they do a 130, add 20inches in somewhere.

Can imagine the single cab too.

....maybe reach the Cape mate...not sure though. Here is a shot from my D2 V8 10m in to a 30 plus crossing...this deep all the way over - on the OTT at the Cape . That is the top of my UHF antenna showing.

    Cheers
