Yep agreed. I think the Defender will be a D4 next gen but lighter and hopefully more sidewall and smaller rims than stock D4 (19 min stock). If they can get away from the D5 in a big way it should sell well to those who want off road ability over on road bias.
I am not a modern Jeep fan BUT the new Wrangler and ute version looks good. I agree with Rick. The video of it crashing looks quite good. Jeep have pointed out that Oz versions will get all the air bag fruit and should therefore be good. Also sig deceleration may have contributed to the results and in most collisions the other vehicle will be the Jeeps crumple zone as it seems quite strong....so the other vehicle will crumple better than the wall they ran the Jeep into.
If you are looking to buy a good vehicle that is Defender like (ie the only Defender sold to date) and want it new then the replacement would be Wrangler even after new Deefer comes out.
Cheers
Fair enough. As I said I haven't much liked Jeeps for a variety of reasons but they are are real alternative to Defender especially in ute form (still haven't got tow or load capacity of Defender though).
Cheers
Yes fair enough Jeep looks like an alternative, but the best alternative? No. IMHO the best alternative to a new Defender remains a second-hand Defender, or a Tojo 70.
The best alternative to a new D4 is looking like being a new Defender in 2020.
IF the new Defender is available with 16’s, can carry 1 tonne payload, has HD suspension, chassis and underbody protection it may be worth a look. Not holding my breath though.
Classic Defenders will most likely continue to rise in value on current evidence of new Defender. We’ll see.
The D5 is the D4 replacment with curved edges, defender replacment pilots are made to look like a D4 and mules like a RRS. Much of what I have seen regarding the new defender is unique, a little imagination with the disguise removed is all it takes.
Dash, body, seating config, engines, electricfied drivelines are very different from D4.
Having said that a very rugged long travel D4,would certainly tick lots of boxes.
If money was no object, (ie. I win lotto tomorrow night!) a G Wagen Pro would get a very, very thorough looking at.
I have a real soft spot for Jeep as I grew up with them and my first car was one.
Actually, if I do win lotto tomorrow night the D2 will get some lovin first!!
Then, if I need more space and a tougher vehicle, the G Pro will get a serious look.
