2 definite maybe 3 baby seats possible
So it’s not a family wagon

It will have small tanks and compared with a 200 short wheelbase so despite statistics it won’t sell well as a tug

It won’t have copious rear space so it won’t make the ultimate touring wagon

And at this stage it won’t have a tray/tub so it won’t touch the raging DC market

Despite the LR sticker shock poor dealer network and general low sales
The reality is that it will be an excellent off road version of a fortuner?

I don’t think even Toyota would care if it stole 10% of that market share!!

I think they have plonked it in no-mans land
Maybe in other markets it will be a success but I just can’t see too many Aussie family’s stumping up 100 gorillas for an air spring gizmo ridden fortuner?

I mentioned best in class in context with regards to departure angle from memory.

In regards to where it will fit I think it's creating a whole new class and as mentioned will take chunks out of lots of players.

6 seats is more than enough for most families

    130 8 seater (if they do a 130) or D5 will cater for 7+

I dont know why you picked Toyota fortuner, looks nothing like the New Defender, i cant find any similarities, I'm guessing it's toyotas answer to the discovery, mate its pretty ugly

New defender will do extremely well in sales as it passes the looks test, wife test, the off-road test and the dual use test from what i can see, but early days ill admit.

It may not suit every type of work that is yet to be seen however it will still sell like hotcakes in my opinion.

I saying that I don't mean it's going to beat other popular brands sales by any means, I'm just saying its going to take chunks out of them.

I haven't been shown any factual evidence to prove otherwise.

Heres is the LC200 2019, NP 2019, LCP 2019 and the new Defender (and only what we can see so far, no doubt it will look better again fully unwrapped)

Whilst I respect both the nissan and the toyota have many good points. People will see the defender and instantly say that looks tuff in comparison, it will stand out from the super rounded 4x4s we are used to seeing on the road in a way not to far off from the gwagon (of which i don't like the look of, g professional i could live with modded)

Add with its offroad credentials that the reviewers will no doubt froth over + its supreme dual purpose ability, LR comfort, efficiency, power, hybrid etc etc, you have a force to be reckoned with.

I remember when Samsung came out with their smartphones when everyone had an Iphone and shocked the market, this reminds me of that.

I picked fortuner because of size
The best image we have of scale of the 2020 is the 1/3 from above tusk image

Scaling off wheel sizes it is about the size of a fortuner
Certainly less load space than prado and 200??

I personally think both are pretty average ugly and to be honest bland SUV appearance.

    I don’t doubt the LR2020 will be great off-road

That equals less than 1% of the markets buying decision

It will have shorter range than prado and 200 almost certainly as LR have always felt
75L is about the right tank size 🤦*♂️
The shorter wheel base will then mean it will be unlikely to eat into the tug market even though it would probably be a great tow vehicle

I know plenty of families with kids 2-3 kids only so surely a 5 seater should be enough???

Nope they all run wagons with three rows, in the early days it means you can space out the car seats that these days are bigger than Captain Pickards captains chair on the enterprise as well as fit in all the kid stuff and then later on more seats means more friends/ family can pile in???

I don’t think it will make a classic family wagon which can then be used as a tourer or camping trip machine, it just doesn’t look big enough???

My feeling is that in a few years it will just languish along as another mid size SUV

Perhaps the fancy hybrid EV stuff will help it along

But it just doesn’t look big enough to be called a full size wagon??

BR you’d know, did the MOAB guys or lucky8 run a tape measure over the wheelbase?
Maybe my scale is all wrong and this thing is as big as a patrol or 200???

I think this new model will be a better alround vehicle than any previous version, i like the old defender but just too agricultural for even my basic needs.
I'm liking the look so far and looking forward to seeing it in the metal, its probably the vehicle it should have been all along given the lack of proper evolutionary updates though out its life span.

Look at the pictures of the pilots with people in them and scale from there you can get a sense of how wide the vehicle is.

    I'm guessing wheelbase is 110 and 90.

However it looks to have the width of a bowler Bulldog

    Definitely does not look little.

Off-road credentials have been well and truly proven both with current Land Rovers and what the new defender has been able to achieve at MOAB + the feedback of Norm Land Rover people that have witnessed the new defender at MOAB in person.

I have not seen any facts that would show that the new defender would not be extremely capable off-road.

Look up the trails they have reportedly driven, it's serious four-wheel driving.

I recon it is D4 size,no way it is Fortuna or even Prado size.

If it was,it wouldn't be worth having a SWB.

It has to be D4 size at least or it won't sell well,as a touring vehicle, although the load area behind the seats looks a bit small, but could be an illusion.

I have no doubts about its off-road prowess

And I am certain it will pizzle the rubicon when they do that

But pure off-road prowess sits low in the 4wd wagon buying matrix
Otherwise, pajero, prado, patrol would still be releasing SWB models in Australia

I agree there is some indication of width in those photos

But gee it would be nice if someone ran a tape over the wheelbase and LOA

Dimensionally to my eye it looks shorter than a 110?
Certainly rear overhang appears very compact

    Oh well

How many months is it now!!!

I put in my calendar 11th to 23rd of September as the Frankfurt Auto show, however it could also be shown just beforehand in an outside Show, but I doubt it would be shown after.

    4months
