Chain driven to reduce noise and weight, cheaper - any other advantages?

    Doesn't look as strong/durable as a gear driven lt230.

Looks pretty simple to me, maybe chain would take up backlash?

    I'm not sure what's stronger?

I've blown a few lt230s, they have their weaknesses too.

But it will have to handle a heap more power and torque than a LT230 ever had to,unless the vehicle was highly modified.

Is it the same as the SVR RRS transfer?

Love elocking transfers, simple, no linkages, sealed.

Used to air activate my lt230, even that can be a nightmare, for example, no neutral, compressor, lines, linkages.

Yeah it should be stronger than the lt230 given the power and weight increase. Just doesn't look very tough in that cut out .

I have no idea why you would air operate the lt230? It has a simple lever at arms reach!

Any possibility of ratio changes on the chain drive?

Same reason many others air operate it.

The standard levers can and do fail, when you off-road in tough conditions a lot.

Cor4 even do a kit now

Ended up converting to cable, much better

No idea if you can change ratios, but i guess its like a bike, so probs.

I know the petrol and diesel new fenders have different diff ratios, so the petrol can have diesel ratios swapped in if its running bigger tyres using factory parts.

I assume it’s similar to the Magna Steyr transfer box that JLR have used since at least 2005 D3/RRS and 2007 RRV.

    Is the t-bag planetary reduction?
Seems the chain drive is for front shaft transmission
But the main sprocket sits concentric with input thereby my assumption the gear reductions (H/L) are planetary?

    Classic!

What you are seeing here is (according to JLR Marketing) an echo to the heritage of the Land Rover Defender......
