Thread: The New Defender

Hi all, just decided to subscribe after many years as a passive observer.. the new Defender has surely generated some
heated conversation As a long term Landie owner/driver, 9 years Army, I passed my test in an Airportable, driven and owned
various LR models since the 90's, including a classic RR 3.9, Series 1 and 2 disco's, 2 Sports, i made a decision and have
ordered a P400 SE, mostly to annoy Gary (101RRS) who i know from the rrsport forum, and who has some opposing views to myself
(i will be posting a picture of my Rangie Sport with OL bullbar and winch shortly Gary I look forward to receiving the new Defender
sometime in the middle of next year.. Its progress, and as much as i love the old Defenders, i will enjoy owning the new one with just
as much enthusiasm and no doubt frustration as any LR owner can attest to

With e-diff and TR2, i expect the new defender will go very much anywhere, my Sport with the first gen Terrain and e-diff is pretty good all
round from an off road perspective .. the new Deffo should be just that bit better..

Welcome Zilch, anything that gets up Gary's nose can't be all bad, eh?

Actually I was praising Zilch for buying the new Defender because I like em and when my RRS dies in a couple of years there will be a nice mid to high spec Defender on the market for less than half the new car price.

Congrats for actually putting a deposit down and not just being a keyboard warrior! The snip I took from another forum pretty much sums up the entire New Defender discussion for me.... this owner can't stop sharing his, obviously very important, views how much less off road worthy, though the New Defender is. He must speak from experience. I doubt.

can you wait 10 years Gary thatÂ’s the planned retention period, same as my Sport

in regard to being an early adopter: air suspension, TR2, e-diff, 8 speed box have been out years,
6 pot petrol MHEV was released in the US earlier this year on the full fats, they have shoe horned
a lot of their standard tech into the new Def, and tried to improve on it 🙏

some of us are risk takers, but I think the decision to buy the new defender is reasonably considered
based upon the tech that is already in many of existing LR products

But I hope it works out well for you and will be as reliable - certainly as my RRS has been and I guess yours has been as well.

Plan will be to keep the Range Rover Sport Gary as our local bush basher, and turn the Defender into a Chelsea tractor i will get my coat and wait for the flak

No the Sport will stay and the wife will use it as a daily drive, the Defender will be our Tourer, maybe Kakadu in the next few years or the Kimberley
hoping compomotive release some 18" wheels for it, and get some under body protection added.
