    Diff Guard or Shovel?

I fitted a Bearmach front diff guard... you be the judge

Clearance has been reduced by approx 20mm.

It is simply attached to the existing diff pan bolts. You can see that the nuts don't complety locate on the threads. I wouldn't trust them to hold on impact.

    Cheers, Paul.

I think it needs a support bracket up the front and over the diff - like the QT rear diff guard.

Yep, totally agree Ron. I also needs to sit a lot closer to the diff pumpkin so clearance isn't so badly affected. Think mine was 250mm before fitting and 230mm (or 270 to 250) after fitting, and that's with 33" tyres, so maybe about 180mm clearance on a stock P38.

I think you are right, Paul. If that hit something the wrong way, it would bend the studs back or strip the nuts off. And as the studs are inserted from within the diff casing.......

Paid enough to learn that I can build a better one for a lot less and stronger. My P38 is owned by my business (no, not Hard Range... the other one that makes money and pays my mortgage) so this is a tax write-off that I will get charged FBT on anyway... so I guess it did cost me a lot

Thanks for taking one for the team. I now know what I won't be putting on the back diff!

    Seriously ordinary design.
