Thanks Mick, massive difference in atomisation on that clip. Reckon ill go with those injectors after i've done the brake modulator (i gotta budget...). Are they likely to be available as a reco would you know?

The injectors i used are the bosch gen 3 type and they are now in a 97 gems 4.0L. As for the reco ones from the states im guessing that's in USD because i don't know any one in the trade that will even service as set of 8 injectors in aus for that price. Injector servicing is usually between $20-$35 an injector depending on where you go.
The top injector is the old one in the pic.

Just do a search on US ebay for Bosch 19lb injectors. They are super common on Ford and GM V8`s so there is plenty of choice. You can pay much more but look hard and you will find the cheap recon sets on auction, not buy now. Mike 90 RR Bought a full set for around US$100 not long after me
A one minute search found these at US69.99. problem is you need to find a seller willing to ship here and at a sensible rate

OK well today i cleaned the engine out with a can of the Subaru upper cylinder cleaner. (When i was buying this a mechanic was picking up parts from the same place and said it was the best product on the market..) It stinks when you start the engine! I took out the plugs and sprayed a bit into each cylinder (wondering should i changed the oil now too??) The rest into the manifold (the colour of the stuff after it hits the surface, black as..) both before starting and while running.
Then i replaced all the plugs with the NGK BPR6ES. Went for a run resetting trip computer for an average run for me which before had a consumption of around 22.5 l/100km. Now 16.5l/100km. Getting there.... Ill still try the bosch style injectors. After i do more overtime at work!
I dont think you will see much change in the fuel consumption by changing to the gen 3 Bosch type. What you should find is more power / better pick-up and a smoother tick over. Mike 90 RR did a before and after experiment on his classic and that was his conclusion. I never looked at fuel use on mine but the difference in power was very noticeable especially at higher speeds
I just fitted a set of the 4 hole bosch injectors. Set of 8 new from the US cost $425.00 australian dollars including shipping. Paid for them on a monday evening and had them in the car on the saturday/
You are right with the more power, better pick up and smoother running however i now have considerably more economy in the city and in the bush.
I'm getting between 13-16L/100k depending on how i drive in the traffic and 17-19L/100k in the bush. the last scrub trip with the old injectors was getting 30L/100k. the reason for the extra economy is with the increased torque between 2000-3500rpm you don't have to use as much throttle to achieve the same result.
Also we selected these particular injectors due to an almost identical flow rate to the original ones.

Ok, i've got my injectors and some holidays coming up soon so looked up in RAVE how to change injectors. Next question, is it necessary to take the plenum apart to get to them or can you simply loosen the fuel rail and get them in?
You shouldn't have to split the plenum but they are a bastard to get out as the rail will only just go high enough to let them escape, but with a bit of persistence and persuasion you should succeed. It is also going to be easier to do it with the plenum split as it gives you more room. I would recommend putting some vaseline on the new injector o-rings before you slot them in as well, to avoid pinching an o-ring.

Just a quick tip when taking the old injectors out. It might sound obvious but make sure the old O rings come out too. Its all to easy in the excitement of the moment to miss one that wants to stay behind. It will drive you mad wondering why the fuel rail wont go back evenly
