Gullwing Door Install on a Puma 110

Installed the gullwing door on my station wagon 2 weekends ago.
We removed the window and frame to remove the glass. If I was to do it again I would suggest that you smash the glass.
The frame on new defenders' is now help in by clips and double sided tape and is a real pain to remove. Older defenders are drill out the rivets.

1. Remove inner trim panels.

2. remove clips then cut the double sided tape and remove all of it from the panels.

3. Split window frame and remove glass and associated bits. Reassemble frame.

4. Drill holes in frame to suit gas strut bracket as per instructions.

5. Re-install frame with new double sided tape. (We needed 3 layers as I couldn't get the same thickness on a weekend)

6. Install gas strut brackets with supplied bolts. Fit window seal.

7. Drill holes in body panel for door (use door as a guide to set out) Fit door and gas struts. Make sure gas struts are outside at the top bracket.

8. Reinstall window clips.

9. Adjust frame at locks so it locks. Re-install inner trim.

10. Enjoy the finished product.

Is this one of the Dolium (Opposite Lock) Gullwing Doors that you are installing?
Have you ever come across a glass one, or do you think the aluminium panel could easily be replaced with glass (similar to what a lot of the Ute Canopies have)?

This is the dolium/opposite lock one.

I think you could ask a canopy fabricator to make a frame with glass in it, and fit it in a similar way to the dolium one but I can't see it being any cheaper. There are lots of bits required, such as gas struts, brackets, locks & p-seal.

There was a pic floating around at one point of a scissor door conversion done to a defender but can't for the life of me find it. Maybe i'll just have to get a kit and do it myself
