Hi Andrew, the army soundproofing sounds good, I'd go with that. From what I understand it's the combination of barrier and foam that seems to be the most effective. Great project, I'm enjoying watching it develop

The dynamat makes a good amount of difference to heat and sound, but with the metal shield part inside the cabin, that metal can heat up, even though its not radiating as much.
looks like youve got some Bushmaster lining there. Its good gear.

Yep it is from a bushmaster, good spotting! I did end up lining the inside of the firewall with the bushmaster sound proffing over the dynamat and have reinstalled the dash. Was a bit of a squeeze but got it to fit. I got onto a secondhand dash from a tdi defender which while not perfect is heaps better than the original dash. It all bolted and screwed in no worries but I did have to modify the tin where the demister vents fit on the firewall as the defender ones are a bit wider. There are a few other small differences also. The dash looks a lot better now, has the grey infill and no dog bite marks and white overspray!

I also got a bit carried away and sprewsed up the engine bay by painting all the rusty old brackets black again, and painted the rocker cover komatsu yellow (was after CAT yellow) just to be a bit different. I have also fitted the AC compressor which involved relocating the water pump for the WTA intercooler.

Starting to panel beat and sand the doors ready for painting. Are also about to buy a tube bender to make up an external roll cage/roof rack similar to the safety devices ones.

Yeah those bushies have the worlds most amazing aircon. At work we call them the Bushmaster time machine, because you get it and they just rock you to sleep until the next stop. Even with the hatches open, standing out the top your legs get chilly. Amazing.

Almost as amazing as that engine bay, good stuff!

Are still in painting mode, lots of sanding, bogging, sanding, painting etc. Hard to get a good warm still day for painting when I'm home, has been un-usually humid this summer, more tropical than our normal hot dry summer. Finally had a perfect day, kids at school, day off work, and the bloody power went out! Hard to get a go...

I've dynamatted all the doors. I know it's been said you only need a patch in the middle, but I did the whole door because I already had enough dynamat, and from previous experience with a GU patrol mind you, it made a dramatic difference to sound levels. I will also be adding the later puma type bottom door seals.

I installed two interier lights, one each side above each front door in the head lining. They are LED with a simple on/off switch and swivell to help aim for map reading etc.

Still have to pick up my wheels, finish painting them, re-fit tyres, then I can roll the landy out of the shed to finish spraying.

Then start on the heavy duty roof rack/roll cage.

Coming along nicely. I would be interested to hear about your painting efforts and getting the dings out of the doors.

Re dings in the doors. Yes there were lots, especially along the curved sections. I simply pushed them out with the back of a screwdriver from the inside and bogged up being sure to sand back to bare ally first. I was also carefull to leave enough dings in the doors so I don't get to precious about it first time I go bush! It's a Landy built for the bush after all, but the doors are acceptable now. Still waiting for stormy weather to pass to finish painting, are using 2K. You'll have to call in on you way past some time.
    Cheers,
    Andrew.
