This is a great read and now linked via the LRSOC. Just looked your route up. Good luck from cold grey England (yes it's summer here).
Hi Mike, Sounds like you are having fun. Your 2ltr engine holds 5.5 ltrs, hope you don't need that much & fill down the long breather tube, which is the fill tube. Probably best to use a funnel as I find most ends up on the floor other wise. Providing your oil consumption does not exceed your fuel consumption all is good. Safe trip.

Hi all I left Brisvegas at 11.00am just pulled up in Moree for the night. Staying at the Burke & wills . Steady steady all day 75 kph using around 200mils of oil per tank of fuel. Climbed Cumnimghams gap
Without any problems but I gave her a
10 min break at the top of the range. Off early in the morning next stop Bourke. Then down the track along the Darling River to Tilpa. They have had a bit of rain out there so 4wd will get used on this section . Looking for the transfer box oil filler bolt if anyone can give me directions or a pick from the manual. I want to check it in the morning before I take off .

dipstick and round disc under plate on trans tunnel is main box...transfer box is a bolt on a square plate with no obvious way of messuring .....ie drain and pour in 2.5 litres..i think its under center seat box cover from memory..... its obvious and on a flat section just infront of the hand brake drum
good luck

Got the wife to take a photo of the transfer case exploded view from work shop manual and sent to my phone by text . Gota love these new smart phones .
Good progress Mike.
The level for the T box is that little square headed plug to the left of the handbrake drum. Remember I said the corners were rounded off and I had to build it up with dobs of weld to get it out when I first did it. A small shifter is the go. Dont screw it in too hard though as they seem to jam in tight. Its a tapered thread.

Heavy fogg so good excuse for a sleep in this morning .
Transfer and gearbox all good no oil required changed the engine oil just outside Moree at 1300 miles on clock. All going well.
Going well Mike. For future ref the transfer oil can be checked with a dipstick made from welding rod (coat hangar wire) whatever. Make it good and long with a nice round bent round handle at the top. Make a notch in the wire 4.5 inches from the bottom, then when inserted through the fill plug into the corner the level is correct if on the notch mark. This trick courtesy of Graeme, & works a treat. Take care.
