    update

p1 started on seat base, is in pretty bad condition and will require some surgery, side panel cut out for spare tank which i wont be fitting then later cut out for side access as storage inside the aux tank

p2 after shot with some new paint applied for now, new paint also makes it easier to see what needs doing

p3 started on another fuel tank i had, seems in good condition have not tested as yet for leaks but think it should be fine with no obvious holes, my other tank has pin holes at the base of the tank

p4 after shot with some new paint applied after a clean up

p5 this new tank has this bottom drain plug missing, just cant make the spare tanks plug move to replace onto the newer tank, used multi grips on the sides with no success as yet, what else can i use for the slot to crack open???

I have a tyre lever the right size! Grind a piece of flat steel the right thickness to fit, and turn it with a shifter.

Might be worth warming the plug with a heat gun and allow to cool, to crack the corrosion.

more updates, thx for comments and suggestions to all

1 not happy with the paint finish so a quick rub back and repaint in the areas that required, temp fitted to LR

2 filler cap, eenie meenie minee moe (sorry about the spelling) 3 caps to choose from

3 one filler cap painted and ready to fit, need a gasket though

4 plate cover fitted today, sorry about the grime just dust from sitting around, nice to finish of with some smaller touches

5 fuel gauge, no idea how to test these all different but they all fit, are they of later model LR's. unfitted waiting on clarrification which one to fit first?

6 ring around the speedo, touched up with paint, looks nice

7 temp fitted to the LR couldn't wait to fit to see how it looks, the other gauges are a problem though some missing items, will get to that later...

8 not sure if the wiper works but fitted, are the two side holes just plugged with rubber grommets?

9 iconic LR trim for early series LR's, dusted, cleaned, brushed later painted

10 painted waiting fitment as it dries, mine has a holden 6 not sure if this is needed but will fit anyway.

    more pics

1 fuel tank temp fitted, looking good if i do say so myself, took ages to find the tiny screws for the sender unit though

2 is this the right way up for the side arm for the canvass top, mine had the brackets but was a hard top, prefer to fit and prefer the soft top option

3 before shot of the yellow knob after sanding

4 after shot, after painting the knob, will see how it looks when dried whether to use or not

5 two brackets for the steering wheel, left one is butchered, right one is missing a leg, so cant really use either one

6 i think this is off a really early series one 80inch perhaps, could someone confirm this spare steering component? please

IMAG1983.jpg Photo of wiper motor from parts book. the part marked 6 is a rubberseal I have sent you a PM about the gear box filler cap gasket.. I cut a gasket out of thick gasket paper for the fuel filler cap. I made one out of neoprene rubber but it didn't last long with unleaded petrol.

    update

1 firewall with the wires pulled back some extra brackets removed ready for paint, god help me when it comes to the wiring...

2 underside of seat base, what a mess again with the horrid black seal which is so hard to remove other then a flat blade screwdriver

3 firewall top painted but have run out of paint so need another tin

4 fuel pump? bracket was painted black but decided to go the silver to make it pop more, black just blends in with the green

5 more work on the underside of the seat base, amazing how much crap comes off, also need to get some angled alum to support some parts as its falling apart in its current state

2 & 3 - bits n pieces sanded and painted black ready for install once dried and correct new replacement bolts found

4 steering wheel and column not removed but painted in situ, same with the surround at base of column
5 other bits n pieces either painted or awaiting more paint, that silver panel (fuel pump bracket) looked horrible in silver so painted that back to black

1 - underside of seat base with some much needed black paint. the support arm to the right of pic, can someone confirm that is original, the shape of the alum strip is what i am questioning, the sandwiched piece??? not very clear in pic but the black does look good in matt

2 - brake fluid tank needed much TLC
3 - brake fluid tank with some much needed cleaning, sanding
4 - fuel pump panel painted black and installed for now, looks good
5 - brake fluid tank installed as well as one of the fuel sender units into the tank and painted
6 - 2 steering column brackets sanded, painted silver and partly bolted, need to source more small bolts from bunnings

use a little f Enamel hardener in the paint that I used on my brake reservoir & steering wheel . It helps to stop the brake fluid dissolving the paint & also stops the paint scratching by wedding ring off the steering wheel .
Only down side is you need to mix enough paint for what you want to paint , any left over will go hard.

    Tiny update

1 - so many smaller pieces that need painting on the bulkhead is so time consuming yet rewarding once completed
2 - another larger piece found just below the top half of the bulkhead, partly painted will need to top up the paint work and then fit

the other delay in fitting parts is obtaining spare parts or going to bunnings to source new bolts, unfortunately not all bolts can be replaced easily so its a compromise between cleaning up and painting the older bolts or using something else where possible.
