Bunnings is a last resort for buying nuts & bolts. Only Metric & Whitworth and usually very expensive (you pay more for the blister pack than the contents !).

Find a bolt shop, the only problem for you might be their opening hours.

    more painting

1 Did the painting on the underside of the infill panels for both doors allowing to dry then rivet on, job done. nothing to exciting here.

Might look at clark rubber for the rubber strip between door top/bottoms. they have 25mm or 50mm wide rubber strips not sure of thickness though.

re the bolts i don't buy the packaged bolts/nuts just the galvanised singular ones which are metric but look good being galvanised against the S1 panels. I know they are not the correct bolt but are heaps better then the older rusted ones, and makes doing up or having to undo the bolts so much easier. the nuts for the door tops i will just paint up and re use as they are a special thread and there is only 4 to worry about.

    Installing infills

1 driver side, couldn't wait anymore for paint to dry fully so installed. 26 rivets per side damn that's a lot. happy to report door tops completed, very easy and very rewarding to see on vehicle

2 pass side done as well. It's beginning to look like a proper S1 LR now.

When our local Masters were open they had a large range of BSF nuts & bolts . ( stumbled on them by accident when I was looking for something one day) They were not on the display stands but in the draws under . They actually had a better range than the Bolt supply Co's in Brisbane who only have 1/4 , 5/16 & 3/8 & only stock one length if you are lucky.

    Tyres and Putty

1-3 various tyres on the S1 range from the standard to others including 700x16 (smaller), 7.50R16 Taller and 235x85xR16 almost as tall as the 750 but wider so not as thin and narrow as 700 or 750 tyres, not sure what to replace with as close to std as possible and prefer on the cheaper side. i think the 700 look to small for the vehicle so leaning towards the taller tyres perhaps

4-6 did some sanding on previous filler applied, found my elec sander (had been doing by hand), ran out of spray putty so used some paint just to see what needs doing, still needs a little more work yet before paint but is coming closer to looking as standard as possible.

I have 700R16 on my 86". I don't think I would want to go any larger due to gearing and rubbing.

    VIN

1 Is this my VIN or chassis number, making mine a 1955 model 86inch. I am yet to find the VIN on the chassis, checked front and rear usual places not there but have this taken off at the moment but is this the chassis number.

That is "a" chassis number. Whether it is yours or not will depend on the history of the vehicle - which you probably don't know.

The definitive chassis number will have been stamped on the chassis. Australian assembled ones will have the number on the LH rear back spring hanger, facing out. UK assembled ones should have it on the top of the RH chassis rail, near the front - usually in the engine bay I believe. Vehicles assembled elsewhere - who knows! The stamped number is likely to be invisible due to rust, mulktiple coats of paint, or all of the above. And it is possible the relevant part of the chassis has been replaced.

The standard tyres for your Series 1 are 6.00x16. 6.50x16 was the optional larger size. 7.00x16 was often fitted, especially in later years, but was never even an option for it. You are likely to find it a bit overgeared with 7.50 or even 7.00 - plus the speedo will be out, and if it has the original wheels (231601), these are five inches wide, too small really for 7.50. The trouble is that 7.50 is the easiest to find today!

The 107/109 came with 7.00 tyres as standard.

My 86" is 1954 CKD and the chassis number is on the top of the LH chassis longitudinal down beside the radiator support panel. Mine is partly obscured by the brake line where it runs across the top of it.
