Thanks for your concern 1950Landy, all good - rains kept me away and was having a break as well

1. today started off with some aluminium thinking to make some brackets for the top and side hoodstick supports

2. next bent to shape around the pole and then drill some holes

3. moved up to the top bracket much larger has a slight curve to the top half, and will utilise the bolt for the side hood stick to attach to.

4. looking like a dogs breakfast here, but the bottom needs more bending to pull together better

5. top bracket with the curve and 2nd bolt (bolt lined up thanks god for that), now to drill the final 3rd hole and to make sure they all line up

clutch is on the back burner, did more research from uk forums. ordered more parts to come soon. hoping to finish off the exhaust next week. been researching the throttle cables n linkages. still cannot believe the axle strap does not fit about 10cm short (axle strap is 83cm long part number 237100 and apparently for a S1 swb, looks like i need about 93cm long. Just cannot understand why it does not fit.

1. drilled bent, whilst trying to drill into hoodsticks, oh well glad have plenty of spares

2. finally played around till i got the door gaps as well as i could manage, lining up the three holes for the top bracket was difficult

3. not the prettiest bracket and bit slanted but in position and does the job

4. happy with the door gaps top and bottom

6. just need to weld in the washer to conclude this driver side front.

1. Needed to fill in the gap between the door closing and it being tightly closed, so cut out some rubber

2. glued into position, not sure they will last but closes the gap so the doors close and not wobble about

3-4. got the welder out to weld in the washers, all 4 corners completed, just needs the clamps (ordered) to fit and secure into its position

5. top of the hoodstick needed to be riveted into its final position, done. thank god i don't have to remove that hood anymore, what a hassle

6. p/side bracket made, bolted up and fitted all secured now. can't wait to get the truck out in the sun to appreciate the full hood.

still waiting on more parts, lots of little things still to go but getting closer. Uk forum suggest the clutch issue could be a teeth out when installing the cross shaft, something to consider. happy with the progress but heaps more to go yet.

1. small update today, managed to align the 81 degrees for the steering links/arms

2. then managed to secure the bottom of the steering relay with its 4 bolt securing ring in position (hard to see in this pic), rapped my steering actually turns so freely whereas before could not make it move one cm, slightest move of the steering wheel moves the wheels as it should

3. exhaust of a series two arrived for the front end, thinking with my pipe bender i can marry up to the middle centre exhaust. its not far off but the head of the exhaust at the moment is touching the start motor, so needs some bending to align with manifold which is not too far off

4. also ordered some flanges for the bottom of my holden manifold, very well made product sourced from Oz, cardboard cut out was my template of what i needed resting on top

5. unfortunately does not match the bolt hole pattern, this is it secured in position with one bolt (not seen), need to see if i can get the correct flange.

1. Not much of an update but another package arrived from a purchase on gumtree.

2. rear view of the item, full of crap wiring but original and now have a amp gauge which i cannot use due to the 100amp alternator for the holden 186 but its original and will look the part

3. front panel, need the clip for the ignition switch, anything else i can use of this one to make one complete unit with my existing incomplete one

1. got a little slack of late but managed to strip some wires of the old dash unit and transform my new dash with some wiring completed, more to go, here is the view of the rear now complete with amp/fuel gauges included

2. front view as it sits now, not sure all these gauges actually work, will need to wire up properly for that but managed some new connections, wires etc. Looking better by the day.

still thinking about that clutch issue, seems a common mistake is people putting the clutch in the wrong way round which apparently results in loss of sleeve reaching the press plate fingers, so thinking may have to undo the press plate and clutch to re examine.

near impossible to find a holden 186 exhaust flange 2 bolt with 70mm bolt hole to bolt hole, most available are bigger. so thinking may have to build my own. can't seem to find used either.

i have them here

1. just got another delivery today not fitted yet but happy it arrived, hoodstick clamps x4, 2x U, 4x clamps, need to figure out where they all go, the 4 large clamps are obvious but the others need to make sure they are fitted in the correct location. Its the final piece of the hoodstick set. All are branded Bearmach parts but by Exmoor for the 4 larger clamps. interesting to note.

1-2. fitted the larger clamps for the hoodsticks, then went to the back to sort out the other bits n brackets, all sorted. just lined up the rivets with the brackets to see where they went. only item that got in the way was the chain.

3. fitted the chain to the side instead of higher up where the brackets went, seems sorted and works well.

Need to do two more straps which come back around to the front section and onto the windscreen frame, but needed another person to view from behind so that i can line up nicely.

Are you sure those hoop type brackets go there? They are not there (none fitted) on either of my series 1s - also checked archive pics and none fitted - in fact do those hoop brackets actually go on a swb series 1?

And the chain is connected to the horizontal bracket that you have your canvas strap on.
