1. just couldn't wait till the weekend so in went the fuel tank, still drying but why not fitted, need more suitable bolts but its in

2. love the ground clearance on the old series, fuel tank nice an high even above the chassis

3. another view, just need to secure with better bolts/nuts, bunnings here i come...

4. these damn clips, lucky i had some similar ones left over from another job, these are to secure the centre cover above the gearstick - screws to bulkhead

5. re did the floor on both pass and driver side as i needed to fit the centre piece first, now done

6. my red knob is on (no pun intended), really completes the interior look with the red and yellow knobs, pushing ahead.

radiator no leaks so that all good, fuel tank will fill up next week hopefully it wont leak either. still waiting on more parts from UK.

1. got another delivery from the UK, bulkhead chassis number plate, brand new just need to go and get the vin number stamped

2. made a little bracket to hold down the gearbox oil filler, one question - if i fill the g'box with oil how do i tell if its full of oil, does it come with a small dipstick or another nut that you undo to see when full like the diffs

3. fuel added to tank no leaks, plumbed up with fuel filter as well, will need to purchase more fuel and fill to the top

4. i think i need a washer under this tank lid, its very loose fitted - now to find one...

There should be a dip stick in the top of the gear box just in front of the seat box, In this photo it is item 10 Image (2).jpg & in this photo top right is item B Image (4).jpg If the dip stick is missing there should be a hole for it. The gearbox holds 1.5 lit's & Transfer case holds 2.5 lit's
There should be a large gasket there , cut one out of thick gasket material or suitable thickness rubber sheet , but you will need something that will not be affected by the fuel . Or you may still be able to buy them from suppliers.

4. i think i need a washer under this tank lid, its very loose fitted - now to find one.... you'll have trouble bubuying one, you'll probaprobably have to cut one from about 3mm rubber (or similar material) that is compatible with fuel

Yes. Early gearboxes did not have a level plug in the side - not sure when they started to put them in, but Series 2 still had the dipstick. It was dropped fairly early in Series 2a production.

It seems the memory has failed me, then again, it's been a long time since my Series I & II days!
Disregard my (incorrect ) advise re Series I gearbox level plug.

When I was doing my Jade rebuild I got a old tractor tube and a car tube from our local tyre place for free

great for gaskets also made High low lever boot and one for the handbrake

Before i commenced today was not happy with the way the drain plug on the fuel tank was sitting, the sealer had run down onto the thread preventing the bolt from sealing properly even though it did not leak, so drained the tank and cleaned up the thread and re fitted.

1. found the dipstick, looks to me the top handle has broken off at some time in its history, was dry as... so limited oil if any in there

2. found the H - high mark for the gearbox oil and filled with about 1L give or take, now reading on the H mark. not done the transfer yet but wanted to make sure the main gearbox had oil for now.

3. began work on the hand brake, fitted the handle to the rubber and bolted into position, will need to fit the remaining mechanism but its in position for now.

also bolted up the fuel tank and poured another few litres of fresh fuel from two small jerry cans i have, started her up all working as it should. still have to remove the gearbox mounts and sort something out there. couldn't be bothered crawling under the LR today. radiator still needs support on the sides. got measurements for the centre seat base cover.
