    bumper time

    1. test fitting the front bumper which is like a banana - bent in other words

    2. p/s cannot fit a bolt thru

    3. d/s can only managed one bolt through the hole to bolt up

    4. put something straight onto the bumper to see how much it was out of alignment and begin some hammering motion

    5. after some time finally got it to fit with all 4 bolts nuts securing it to the chassis, job done. Its not perfect but then neither is my S1 and its the original front bumper with some character and scars of its past, love the look

Waiting to hear back from bearmach first they said they had sent the wrong middle exhaust now investigating. ordered the front section and will need to modify to fit the holden 186 flange set up (hoping to save me a trip to the exhaust shop with the S1 on a car trailer)

Just need a large shifting spanner on the top flange near the D/S chassis should pull that back into some shape . Just work your way along a little at a time.

    electrical stuff

    1. 12v socket set, need to look up which is the top and which is located at the bottom (red vs black)

    2. my instrument panel as is, slowly starting to fill up the holes

    3. front view of new ignition, cant seem to undo where the key barrel enters, it turns not sure why its there as i have a new key and barrel to suit but how do i remove this 'on' rotating switch in the centre of the ignition

    4. rear view of ignition, i think there is supposed to be a spring clip which holds the ignition into position with the panel, i never had one with this vehicle so not sure

    5. have a white push pull switch, again not sure why its white may paint black, does this light up the instrument lights for night driving and probably in the wrong position needs to move up one hole, i think i have an extra hole here

    6. need to look up the 6 way connector and where its located in the vehicle and got the new brake switch as well, might test my old one before fitting this new unit into position

Bearmach concluded they have supplied me with the wrong intermediate exhaust and will be refunded, thank you Bearmach.

Mine is red at the top. But note that yours should have been positive earth, so that the red one would have been earthed. If the polarity has been changed, as is commonplace with most positive earth vehicles today, the black one should be earthed. Worth remembering that this socket is unpolarise - so you can plug things in reverse polarity, and a lot of modern devices will take exception to this. Also note, that it is intended for a six watt trouble lamp, and while it will easily supply perhaps 50W without issues, it is unfused. Or more accurately, your wiring harness is the fuse.

Can't help - that is a military switch. Someone hopefully has more information.

    4. rear view of ignition, i think there is supposed to be a spring clip which holds the ignition into position with the panel, i never had one with this vehicle so not sure

Yes. Not listed as a separate part, if you can't find a sppring (anyone?) you will have to improvise something - perhaps a hose clip.

Yes to all of that. Should be in the top hole, the other one is for a fuel warning light on diesels. Should be fairly easy to find a black one - and the knob should be a little smaller than that one. Try an older auto-electrician, possibly Repco. Used to be a very common automotive type switch.

    Hope the above helps

In that 1st photo the piece of fibre board under the black terminal should be at the back of the dash panel with the little flp between the two sockets so the terminals can't touch together & short. It should also be on the live terminal to insulate the terminal from the dash panel.

    small update

    1. guess what showed up - all 8 lamps/lights not original to the era but still LR lights to make suit.

    2. masking, measuring and drilling out a centre hole all in progress, marking out where the two lights at the front guard will sit, side by side is my choice others do up and down, blinker on outside and park light inside

    3. googled some pics and yes the black seems to be on top so that's where its going, done up tiny little things, again thx for all suggestions

    4. when relocating my pull switch decided to paint it black, let it dry then install, finally this dash coming together - not looking fwd to the wiring though

    more updates

    1. got my hole saw strapped onto the cordless drill and here you go, a hole for the new lamps/lights

    2. did one side then moved onto the other mudguard, these are not screwed onto the guard as yet

    3. other side done, the original one lamp is positioned on an angle the new hole is flat, not a big problem but they do sit differently for now

    4. black switch painted being originally white, and housed into position, that's all folks

    chassis cut

After countless hours of looking for a suitable radiator to fit nothing is available believe or not. so needed to move on so decided to cut out the chassis to make fit the holden radiator i already have. Almost impossible to find a holden 186 radiator these days. so here we go...

    1. starter up the old girl and fitted the old radiator with plumbing to see if it held water which it does, so all good just needed to be cut up on the sides to fit better and reduce overall width (largely cosmetic)

    2. after much measuring it was out with the grinder and cut her up, had one plan which went out the door, so will need to purchase more steel to make the fix i am after, probably a U channel welded into position, trying to keep all the weld above for access with engine in position, she does smoke (white) a little not sure why. Not sure my new water pump is pumping water around the radiator, how can i test for this?

    3. radiator which will be cleaned up and most likely used for now, sides cut off, top flap shortened, fits like a glove now and lowers into chassis. Still will be a tight squeeze for the rear of headlights but confident it will work if i have calculated correctly.

Those dash lights do they have two terminals on the back or just one . If there is only one they will need the body earthed they look like you have mounted them in rubber grommets .

    chassis repairs

1950Landy - yes i have placed them in rubber grommets but they do have two terminals in rear maybe even three from memory

1-2 Went down to my local steel supply shop got this 2.5mm thick square tubing cut off the top and lowered into position, left it sitting a little proud for welding down to make flush with the chassis. not pretty but should work ok. cant weld today due to rains and i am a little exposed with the elements. needs another cut out for the lower radiator outlet. will need the ends capped off, then lowered and welded into position allowing my radiator to fit inside. pushing ahead for now.

Can someone suggest an easy way to test if my water pump is actually pumping water around the engine? It was a new pump but with the bottom hose connected and the top open I would of thought the pressure would have bursted water out from the top outlet, which it did not so worried about water flow.
