engine.jpg remove engine.jpg The drg shows the oil pipe going to back of the cylinder head . Sorry about the instruction being up side down , I rotated it after scanning but it rotated again when I loaded it . Instruction 7 says remove oil pipe from rear of cylinder head.

Good evening.
Head had a small plate over oil feed hole.
Block has a bolt plug.
Broken spark plug out, after careful drilling.
Very happy.
Pistons freed up.

Is the head banjo thread, feeding the oil supply into the block the same as later Series 2 ones ????.
Do have a 58 S2 with 2l motor, that i could try, plus Early S2 one.

I don't know if they are the same, but I would be very surprised if they were different - while the Series 2 went to UNF threads from BSF, this really only applied to new parts, carry over parts from Series 1 stayed BSF, and only changed later in Series 2a, so I doubt changes were made on an engine that was being dropped. Although you never know!

I would say they are all interchangeable it is only the fitting at the lower end that is different. You also may find the thread that the oil light switch screw's in is different . I found this when I needed to replace the oil light switch on my 80" & it was not available , I was told by LR parts they supply S2 switches but found I had to run a die nut over the thread . One the thread is rounded in bottom of the thread the other is sharp , if you know what I mean . I also found the S2 one was set for the light to come on or go out at a different pressure. I managed to find a new one in Malta & also fitted a Rover oil / temperature gauge as well.

For what it is worth, according to John Smith the spread bore engine was put into Landrovers from August 1954. No numbers given!
