Just got a few pictures of the chassis sent to me, fantastic workmanship by Harry from Land Rover Series rescue, very happy with this, should go a bit faster now all the 50+ years of dirt has been removed!

Got some pictures of the finished chassis really happy with the results, opted for a new rear end as the one that was fitted wasn't the right one for the year!
Collecting it in the morning and then its getting dropped off to a mate who runs a truck painting business who will re blast it and paint it in the same stuff as the paint the chassis for trucks that work in the mines!

    Just a quick up date!
The chassis is at a mates, just been re blasted and now being painted, the paint and primer his is using has a 52 year warranty and is use for under ground civil works!
Waiting for engine parts so the engine machine shop can work their magic, the fire wall is back and just need paint, that will be in quite a few months.
Yesterday we gave the axles a good clean and stripped the brakes, next week we will strip them so they can also go for paint.
Hopefully the swivel joints are ok, might have to get them re-chromed?

Wow you are putting us to shame with your progress. 4 months, the land is stripped, parts tagged and identified, chassis and firewall sandblasted.

I have 3 land rovers in parts in my shed at my Dads farm. One day...

Very nice progress Yes those swivels will need rechroming, other wise will soon destroy a new seal and leak more than a landy should!

You can buy a new swivel kit for around GBP100.00 + post. I'd be interested to know what the cost of cleaning them up and re-chroming them would be.
    cheers,

    Morning Gents,
Just got the chassis back from the painters, its been shot blasted again, then hit with special penetrating oil which soaks into the metal, then primed and then finished off with three coats of black.
Really happy with the results, this project was supposed to be a quick strip and clean but my OCD has taken over!

    Morning Everyone,

Just an update, not posted anything as we have come to a bit of a halt, Harry broke his arm playing sport so we couldn't do much and we've been waiting for parts and suppliers, engine bits so Mendham engineering can redo the head and Greg at Greg Tunstall to strip the diffs so I can get them painted and reassembled, should be posting pictures again real soon!

I investigated the re-chroming option here in Perth and it certainly is not an economically viable alternative for just buying new ones.

Firstly, nobody offers engineering grade chrome suitable for the swivels as a standard option. We have three "reputable" chrome platers in the metro area and only one was willing to even have a go... at $500 a swivel!!!

Quality varies, and I opted to bite the bullet on a genuine parts pair from the LR Series guys in the north of England for just south of $400 landed in Oz. The picture is them after cleaning off the wax coating they arrived with.

    Cheers,

    Lou
