It would be good for a water tank maybe, only a small one though you wouldn't want it too too heavy and not a dead load.

Stop encouraging him folks. He has enough toys and projects. Hahaha

Haha Will its a Moke not an Escort!

Anyway, got the old girl back to work this afternoon, wiring a mess, there's a inspection cover off the transmission and the starter solenoid smokes when you turn the key!

On the other hand the oil and coolant are clean and all the lights work!

Can anyone give me some history from the serial numbers?

The chassis number confirms it is a Series 2a, export CKD, RHD, 88, basic or station wagon.

The PMC plate confirms that it was built in Sydney, and the 'B' suffix sets the date between March 63 and April 66.

However, since the ID plates are trivial to swap between vehicles, check that the number stamped on the LH rear back spring hanger is the same!

Thank you very much John I was waiting for your post, I'll have a look on Monday when I'm back in work.
I've decided to give it my 13 year old Son! The thing is as most teenagers he spends far too much time on the bloody computer (I don't get it) so the deal is he has to work on it with me! I'm not going to be working on it at night just Saturday mornings, he is very excited and has said he is looking forward to starting the project. Since we have a couple of years before he can drive we are going to do a full strip and rebuild so many questions will be asked!
If anyone wants that daft wrap round protection bar let me know, come and collect it.

Well started the clean up yesterday, took the wrap round bar off and sorted all the spare parts out then gave her a bloody good clean.

The lad enjoyed himself which is what counts.

Next job is to take the body work off.

This has been said before, but worth repeating - take plenty of pictures as you take it to bits, put the small bits in labelled plastic bags.

Looks like it will be good project. Many a young lad here has helped his dad restore them and then be their first vehicle.
