Thread: Just bought a 2A

If it is a 1967, it is definitely 2a - they replaced the Series 2 in 1961. The clue is in the chassis number - Series 2 has no letter suffix, 2a has a suffix - 1967 should be 'C'.

1967 saw some significant changes to the 2a - and this one seems to have features from both before and after the changes.

For example, earlier ones had the wipers driven by separate motors mounted on the windscreen, later had them driven by a remote motor in the LH glovebox, with spindle boxes mounted through the top of the bulkhead, not through the windscreen. This example has the remote wiper motor, but with the spindle boxes mounted on the windscreen.

And the ones with the remote wiper motors had a different steering wheel.

Similarly, earlier ones had a combined headlight/ignition switch, and a separate starter switch below the dash - this appears to have a key start - but it is at the top of the panel, not the bottom, as it should be.

It looks to be a very interesting vehicle, and to be in reasonably good condition.

I suggest you get hold of a workshop manual and parts book to help understand your new purchase. The easiest way to do this is to go to 'Shop' on the top bar on this page and order a 'Rave CD' - which will also help this forum.

Looking at various picture on the web last night I think its an original petrol engine, I also have a spare engine and box, are these engines simple to overhaul?

The engine is certainly the original type of engine - whether it is the original one is not easy to determine. The engine was basically unchanged from 1958 - 1984, albeit with progressive improvements. What I can see in the picture is consistent with a mid sixties engine, but most of the visible differences are bolt-on anyway, so it would be very hard to be certain anyway.

The engines have no particular problems when overhauling, and virtually all parts should be readily available from Landrover specialists.

Well went round and viewed my new purchase tonight, I am very happy with it and shocked by the amount of spares, more than he told me!

Doors
Tail gate
Upper tail gate x 2
New rear side
Glass
Gearbox
Drive shafts
Starter motor
Box of gauges, switches, knobs and other bits and bobs
Bearings and seals in original boxes (don't know what they are)
Front guards
Front lights
Tail lights
Engine
Another big box that I haven't opened

Taken your advice and ordered one tonight as well as some car stickers!

Is the roof on the bonnet the roof with the tank? I'd am very interested as to how the tank was made, I didn't think there would be enough room.
