If the choke control is in and the light stays on when the motor is warm then the switch is still 'made' and possibly needs adjustment.

Disconnect the wires to the switch and put a meter across the switch terminals. It should be open circuit when the choke is pushed in and you should get continuity when the choke control is pulled out.

Colin followed your instructions to the letter everything seems to make sense but still have permanant light on once motor is warm

lever arm choke inIMG_3322.jpg lever arm choke outIMG_3323.jpg so far everything works correctly

noticed some damage to insulation spacer IMG_3321.jpg

so decided to test again with test lamp

    choke inIMG_3325.jpg choke outIMG_3328.jpg

would seem damage to insulation isnt effecting anything

any advice kinda doesnt make sense........................is there a way of testing thermostat sender

When engine is cold the temp switch should be open circuit. When warmed up should be closed circuit.

Would that be testing from male spade terminal on thermostat to earth".......I'm not the brightest with electrical systems but slowly I'm learning

Thinking more about this I think I should be testing from terminal to wire that attaches to it
    will have a go tomorrow

Power on the test light clamp, then point to spade terminal. Light should be out on cold engine. Light should turn on with motor warmed up. If the light is on on a cold engine the thermo switch is faulty...

Or with multi meter set to ohms check for resistance between spade terminal and earth. Open circuit for cold engine closed for warmed up engine. If its closed circuit on a cold engine the thermo switch is faulty.

    Clear as mud...lol

A bit expensive for a sensor, here's a cheaper one 545010 - Water Temperature Switch but of course out of stock !

Could it be corrosion stopping an earth path from the sensor to the head ? A long shot but removing, cleaning & replacing with some conductive grease might get it working.....but if it's not important probably best to leave it alone.

Possibly add a separate earth wire under one of the screws, or even just take a screw out and clean the threads.
