Because indicators weren't standard fitment back then so were added either by the dealer or the owner at a later date.

The air cleaner in your engine pic is a giveaway that it has a (holden) Stromberg carby fitted with what appears to be an adjustable main jet.

As Gromit says - indicators were not standard, and when that one was sold, almost certainly not even fitted by the dealer. I fitted indicators to my Series 2 I bought S/H in 1963 - I would have to look at photos to tell you where I put them!

    Thanks for the info guys.

Would a Stromberg be fitted because you cant buy a genuine rover one anymore?

Also I read now my current metric and imperial sockets/spanners might not be up to the task! I need AF and BA ones?!

The Stromberg would have been fitted because this was a far cheaper option at the time than repairing the original Solex carburettor. With these no longer available for peanuts from any wrecker, this is no longer the case. Parts for the Solex are available, and I suspect that Chinese made copies of the whole unit are as well - certainly they are for the Zenith that replaced the Solex in Landrovers about 1966.

Series 2 will mostly require AF sockets/spanners plus quite a few Whitworth/BSF. Your metric ones will prove useful for some of the metric fasteners that are sure to have found their way into it over the years, or for sizes that are interchangeable (e.g. 7/16"AF=3/16"W=1/4"BSF=11mm or 19mm=3/4"AF)

Some need to be left for us new players!

Just had a friend over and he saw the restoration manual sitting on my couch. Turns out his wifes(who is my partners best friend) father has an old series just sitting in a shed somewhere on a farm. Will be getting a photo of it soon.

Car was dropped off this after noon. Doesn't look too bad. Gearbox cross member has hit something in and past and will need some repair.
The whole thing seems to be rewired with random cabling. Mainly red under the bonnet. Some just cut off and not going anywhere.
Good news is it already has an alternator installed.
It doesn't even try and turn over which I suspect is going to be part of the crazy wiring.
Can't seem to find a chassis number. Can someone explain in detail where it is?
