I've got an 81 tray top on straight gas, just use it on the farm to cart firewood, but will prob register it one day when I get a chance, it's abit of a weapon off road!

yer i kinda kept it @ home for about a year just driving it around every few weeks near home to keep it turning over till i got off my p's.
when i bought it was too gooder offer to refuse despite everyone objecting to me buying a car i cant drive and spending money on just a car living in the driveway.
It kinda hurt a LOT cos everyone who saw it there just thought it was just some heap that'd never get me anywhere, and me raging at people asking stupid questions 'oh its actually roadworthy'

but my god im having the last laugh now im just living the dream

i had a few go's at arguing with the RTA to try and get an exemption cos of its low power, and despite there being a clause for 'moderate performance v8' it never worked.

I have a 1981 Stage One Truck Cab. Owned it for the last 10 years. I purchased it off one of my best mates and he had owned it for about 8 years himself. He picked it up in Darwin from the original owner. I am in the process of having the engine and gearbox rebuilt. Looking forward to getting it back on the road soon. Hope it helps you with your Stage One tally.

Here are a couple of links to some images if your interested.

Wow, it's going to be like new with that engine and 'box!, are you doing springs and steering and brakes as well?
In the VW scene the rat look is all the go...mechancally perfect but scruffy looking, are you doing that or going for the brand new look?

I am going for the original (rat) look. I like the original outside condition complete with paint worn back to aluminium in parts. It has a couple of small dents here and there but it really is exceptionally straight for it's age. I have replaced the seats and seat belts with Exmoor trim from the UK. A bit expensive but it has kept the original feel to the cab. The steering is being rebuilt and I will be replacing the front drums with disks, but haven't thought about parabolics as yet. Can you recomend a kit here in Australia that work well in a Stage One.

    Regards Warrick.
