Another quick question.
Does the heat spacer cause any problems.
What should I look for.
Thanks

The Zenith carburettor requires an adapter that changes the orientation of the mounting bolts from longitudinal to crossways. Should be able to get one from a wrecker or someone on here. The actual insulator fitting I have never heard of giving trouble.
John
I have had a carb spacer/insulator that cracked at the bolt holes. May have been over tightened but it leaked vacuum. Look for hairline cracks around the bolt holes

Hi John,
I thought the vacuum advance was fitted to the left hand brass tube coming out of the carby pic ????
Does the tube run around the back of the motor ????
I need a good pic of all the pipes and hoses.

Hi John,
Is this the adapter, as it was with my Zenith bits ????
What is the 1/2 inch hose fitting for ????
Thanks also to Phil B

Pulled the fuel pump apart.
The 2 valves are corroded in, plus each has 6 square punch marks, 3 on each side.
Has anyone got any good ideas on how to remove them, and get the valves out ????
whitehillbilly
Yes, that is the adapter. The fitting is for the PCV valve. I think you are right, the vacuum advance connects to the carburettor (it was dark and I was not going to go and look, and it was unclear from the parts book). Yes, the vacuum line runs round the back of the engine - thin copper pipe with a n inch or so of rubber tube making the connection at each end.
John
The valves can be levered out, although this will destroy the valves. The seat can then be cleaned up with a scraper to remove the punch marks, and a centre punch used carefully to refit new valves.
Looking at the pictures, however, I think I would be looking at prices for a new pump - albeit of South Asian origin, these are not all that expensive.

Hi John,
Found an old fuel pump rebuild thread.
You had mentioned making a small chisel, I used a small screw drive, about 40 mins of chipping, but got them out, without damaging the body casting.
Its in good condition, apart from being filled with water at some time.
I am going to look at making a soda blaster, to clean it up.
Anyone ever made one ????
Then put a kit through it.
Its a later type, and came off the low Klm, 2 1/4 motor.
Once again thanks.
