Measure the thickness of a bare bit of steel on the chassis, which has not rusted and has no paint or lumps on it, with a micrometer or vernier caliper. Do the same to the bulkhead and then purchase the correct thickness.

Make your repairs using butt welds i.e. an edge-to-edge repair and then weld - plating implies laying a patch over the base metal, which is a poor way to do it,

    Cheers Charlie

The chassis is probably 2.5mm from memory, I think I just went to 3mm.

Having a close look at the old girl [bit more chassis rust than i first thought, never mind]there is an oil cooler on drivers side under radiator, cut out for it looks original.Pipes go nowhere, one is rusted out looks like they have gone nowhere for a while. Is this engine or transmission? And there is a reservoir behind the cab with one pipe leading to or from it.No filler visible. What is it for?Have not tracked pipe yet.

Most likely had some sort of hydraulic gear attached at some time - only reason I can see for a hydraulic reservoir. Perhaps a hydraulic winch, maybe a tipper. Could have been driven by a gearbox mounted pump or an engine mounted pump. The oil cooler alone could have been for the engine. Never heard of an oil cooler on that gearbox. It doesn't have a pump on a PTO on the back of the transfer case does it?

The chassis is originally 2.4 mm. The bulkhead varies from 1 mm upwards.

I have used 3mm for chassis repairs and 1.2 or 1.6 mm for repairs to the bulkhead.
