Don't think its an alignment problem. However as a last resort you can use gear paste on the gears to see the contact pattern. The High speed gear on the main shaft has some end float but not enough to disengage the dog teeth.
I'm with you and also would have ordered new spring and plunger.
However, being some things Landrover the selector folk does move axially on the selector shaft before you tighten the fixing bolt. Maybe the fork is fully engaging the dog on the High speed gear but not allowing the plunger to fully lock the shaft.
Just a few thoughts.

I was trying to remember how the selector was 'set up', I might have to re-visit this once I've tried the new spring & plunger.
