    Thanks Tombie2, that's always a good idea.
Every now and then I also put a bit of diesel detergent. It's supposed to be good for the injectors, but I assume that will help in keeping the all fuel system clean.
The engine runs very efficiently, the average fuel consumption over the entire year of 2009 is 9.2 Ltrs per 100 Km. I keep an absolute account of fuel and millage.

To purge prime the engine. Turn the ignition one wait 30sce to minute and switch off. Do this 3 or 4 times and it will self prime. Mine just pured into life like always.

    Thumbs up To sum up

    Summing up:

    1. "Fit an access door to the pump on the cargo area."
    2. "The fuel lines are a sod to reconnect. Otherwise access is the only issue."
    3. "It's advisable to replace the rubber gasket/ O ring."
    4. "Prime the engine. Turn the ignition one wait 30sce to minute and switch off. Do this 3 or 4 times.

    This sounds like it.

Just one more thing. Is there a way to cut a hole in the cargo area without having to remove the fuel tank ?

There are some instructions posted on here with exact dimensions of where to cut etc. I'll see if I can dig them up....

yes I did mine following the instructions that as stated are on here somewhere

Also, mine started getting noisy so I pulled it out and the filter was covered in slime (diesel algae?), cleaned it up and it stopped being noisy.

After refitting it leaked around the top when full so I second replacing the gasket, I'll get mine done next service. It's a bugger to do up the allen bolts properly.

This thread is a good step by step how to, but I think in this case, even though it doesn't sound a difficult job I'm going to get my trusted mechanic to do it and maybe put a long range tank at the same time.

Once the hole is done, then it will be an easy (er) job that can even be done on the side of the road if needed.

There is also this thread witch mentions some interesting things.

One that caught my attention, mentions the problems with the pump being related to other issues rather then the pump itself, that eventually causes the pump to fail. One of the issues mentioned is improper fuel additives witch brings me to the following question:

What's everyones opinion on fuel additives ?
Is there a particular fuel additive that's proven better ?
I agree (in theory) that by keeping the fuel system as clean as possible helps the vehicle run efficiently.
Every now and then I use a product from Chemtech "Diesel Power"
    Fuel Additives (http://www.chemtech.net.au/page5.html)

Same here. Been running the Chemtech Diesel Power since we bought the D2a last May. Almost used the full 1L bottle in about 14,000km. I dose up every 2nd or 3rd tank.

Does it make a difference ? I don't have a baseline to compare it to, but doesn't seem to have caused any issues, and I have had 1st hand experience of algae growth in diesel fuel systems .... cheaper to dose up as a preventative measure.

Have you ever smelt the stuff ? Smells like amonia ! ... maybe a shot of Handy Andy would ....

    Nahh ...

    Kev..

I can't draw a comparison because it's the only one I used as well. It seemed reasonably priced and claimed the same as others out there.

That's why I'd like to know if there is anyone with sound knowledge on this.

Just found the following thread about Diesel Fuel Treatment, if anyone is interested.
