As silly as it sounds, there is a possibility that this may be the case. I thought that there were some ISO patterns for bellhousings etc.
But it also wouldn't surprise me if they have used a different bellhousing from the old Rover patterns (leading into an ISO pattern) due to the torque capacity that would be required in the torque converter.

Just looking at your link. It looks like the ZF 6 speed has a belhousing that cant be changed as its one piece with the body.
