well it started with British Leyland and hasnt stopped

they have always had good ideas but failed to exicute them to their potential.....on many levels. No matter the new defender is mono-coque and IFS IRS so it will be even less desirbale world wide....

But how could you try & sell a range of commercial utes to customers in country areas with no dealer network

And having 19' rims on the 3l D4,well we aint goin there either,nough said

Umm,i will stick with the D2,solid axles,16" rims,has never let me down,ticks all the boxes.............

I think a new Defender with IFS, IRS, a motor with some power, an interior which is ergonomic, functional and comfortable etc will probably sell a lot more than the current 5 units per month. At last they will throw away the their 2nd generation dies that were produced before 1958 and they will manufacture a vehicle which meets the expectations of working people for today. The sales volume of the Defender tells me that it is right for only a small percentage of the population. The increase in sales by Land Rover using their latest platform tells me that its something that works.

I agree with slunnie,more and more companys are going away from troopys as workers are fed up with the poor ride,poor cooling-heating and no leg or shoulder room,not to mention the stupid price they charge for them.Tojo made a huge blunder by not making the telecom specials anymore,If LR brings out the new defender based on the D3-4 platform with the TDV6 with auto and has a dedicated forward facing seats ''bus'' model they will be on a winner. There's no way in hell I'd take a modern Land Rover into the unknown over a Toyota. There's a reason why Toyotas are the most popular rugged vehicle in Australia and other harsh countries...and it has VERY little to do with marketing.

Land Rovers just are not built well.

You will get plenty of bites from that comment. Was probably very true up until Ford & BMW got involved, and there have been a few hiccups along the way, like the early Freelanders.

Having an established service network the size of Toyotas, would be a good start. Hard to equal that. The Toymota reputation has taken a few hits lately too. No one is immune to the human factor.

As for marketing, you don't really think the Prius would sell without it do you ?
