it wasnt as bad, but at that stage i was chasing the miss at idle.
over 20 000k's it gone from 600L/tank to now 436L/tank...nothing ive done has had any improvement in economy..

Does it have a cat fitted?
These can collapse or foul up giving some of the symptoms you describe.
Although I doubt it would cause overboosting.

    Cheers,
    paul.

Checking the exhaust system is actually, not such a bad idea .... Won't be the first time a collapsed baffle in a muffler has caused restrictions = motor issues

    You've checked everything else!

and,,,,,ive done all that... see discowhites new LXOB

ive also completed the exhaust system mods. fitted a 3.5'' 300mm hotdog up the front and a 380mm on in the rear in place of the rear muffler. the OE flex also went, replaced by a 4'' long SS flex.
the inside of the OE flex was 42mm!....the pipe size 63mm....what was LR thinking the mufflers were simmilar only they were choked down to 50mm... so now the WHOLE system is 63mm i went from 1.23bar to 1.37bar of boost with no other mods.
    2.03psi for $250...

i also had the disco on coopers dyno, still trying to find my fuel economy problem.

this is the mild upgrade from TRT around the 140kw mark. the 90 was the 200kw upgrade and by my calcs should have been 110kw at the wheels....i miss my 90

Yep have to agree with this. Blocked cat isnt good.
There is an old mechanics tale that a wire brush and a tin of kero is about the only items you'll ever need when dealing with issues relating to cats!!

    Phil,
What are the two dips in the AFR at 65 and about 80 KmH? and is it normal for a TD5 to lean out at high revs like that?
I would have thought the electronics would have kept it pretty much flat line.

this is some of the blurb from the megasquirt manual.

"Note that in this manual we assume you are running gasoline. However, other fuels have different Air/Fuel Ratio (AFR) requirements. Below is a chart of the equivalent air/fuel ratios for several popular fuels:

    Air/Fuel Ratio Equivalents
Lambda Gasoline Propane Methanol Ethanol Diesel
    0.70 10.3 11.0 4.5 6.3 10.2
    0.75 11.0 11.8 4.9 6.8 10.9
    0.80 11.8 12.5 5.2 7.2 11.6
    0.85 12.5 13.3 5.5 7.7 12.3
    0.90 13.2 14.1 5.8 8.1 13.1
    0.95 14.0 14.9 6.1 8.6 13.8
    1.00 14.7 15.7 6.5 9.0 14.5
    1.05 15.4 16.5 6.8 9.5 15.2
    1.10 16.2 17.2 7.1 9.9 16.0
    1.15 16.9 18.0 7.4 10.4 16.7
    1.20 17.6 18.8 7.8 10.8 17.4
    1.25 18.4 19.6 8.1 11.3 18.1
    1.30 19.1 20.4 8.4 11.7 18.9
Lambda is the ratio of a given AFR (air/fuel ratio) to the stoichiometric AFR for that fuel. So if a gasoline engine is rich, say 12.5:1, lambda is:

    12.5:1 รท 14.7:1 = 0.85"

on your graph your afr are around 19 to 20 ie lambda of around 1.34 which is much leaner than the stoich for diesel of 14.5 and someone has mentioned this to you. i've got a 4.6 disco and a tdi so know zip about the td5, they do sound rather complicated with all the things you have checked. so please take on board my little knowledge of these motors, would the lean afr need to be rectified first to be able to get to the bottom of your fuel usage or are many of the things you have done trying to arrive at that? if it was on my petrol 4.6 then the first step would be the oxygen sensor but sorry don't know about the td5.
