my engine number is a 16P..i think that indicates the update model/eu3 motor.
although i think my motor may be really close to the last of the 10P blocks?

    16P10001A..is that the 1st or the 10001thst?

    cheers phil

How come the replacement head gasket comes with plastic dowells? Old stock, non-genuine or isn't LR recognising there's an issue here.

Certainly does Paul, manifolds, head and cam etc etc all have 02 date stamps. The late heads all have an external fuel line that runs from front of head to fuel block. Early heads are not interchangeable.

i used an early TD5 head and the early type fuel regulator on mine after mine had the internal fuel line crack into water gallery. mine is a 2001 intermediate build with the late type head. took me a while to work out why i had a pipe left over on reassembly, but i sorted it . all going well since , fingers crossed it will continue. however i dont remember whether i had plastic or steel dowels when i refitted with the new gaskets :/

Sorry, I meant yes you can fit a early head to a late engine etc, but if you were to do this without changing the fuel reg etc then you'd be in trouble

No, the fuel rail cracks letting fuel into the crankcase and sump, are still there

In fact, I have seen more D2a's with this issue than early ones
