Very unusual as Carroll Shelby was contracted to Ford to build an American sports car to compete with the corvette it was inspired by the Sunbeam Tiger (Chrysler Corp.) powered by the small block Ford, I somehow think Ford may have been a bit ****ed if he had put a chev in it, Regards Frank.

If you look at the GT clases at Le Mans they are road going cars with GT2 being as original as it gets and GT1 allowing some changes but nothing significant in the engine dept. The vettes are just very well designed, christ they still run a traverse leaf rear end and OK they have adry sump on the LS7 but its the std road system in both GT1 & 2.

As for NASCAR not being sport. I think it's the purest form of motor sport that still exists. It's about as strictly regulated as it could be, maintains very close racing and everyone knows where they stand in relation to the next guy. Because if he has it, then everyone has to be able to get it. It's like open source racing.

They might only go round "in circles" but I've sat in one and while I've driven some quick stuff (sometimes not where it should be left) I'd think more than twice before pushing one of those where they do.

Don't know how this thread degenerated into GM V Ford.

I would have been happier buying a RRC modded with a Windsor rather than a Chev, simply because of the dizzy location. Windsor conversions are quite rare though.

Have a good mate who bought a schmick Cobra replica with a very warm 350 and when he plants the right foot it still makes all the right noises and goes like the clappers. He isn't fussed anymore that it's not a Ford donk.

Ford engines have won more F1 races than all other engines combined. How many chevs have won a F1. Cosworth also do a head for Mercedes, does that make it a cosworth, Regards frank.

so this engine that he won with was a Ford CBA v6, how close to the 289 was that??? I think you ll find it was independitly developed by ford motorsport in the uk/europe.

Cosworth did make their own engines, wikipedia is your friend...

Ford is second to Ferrari in all time F1 wins...but cosworth doesnt get a mention ...I wonder why, becasue they were under the ford banner....so a damn lot of fords wins were due to cosworth engines....

It is independent but sprung with traverse leaf. Seen some samples of the composite work and wow. Pre-stressed carbon/kevlar/unobtanium stressed to created different rates.

When Carrol retired from racing after winning for Aston Martin at 24 Hours Le Mans, because of a crook heart he was contracted by Ford to build a competitive sports car, which he did with the small block Ford and AC body and chassis, while he was still in Europe, he shipped some engines over to UK, fitted them and then shipped the cars back to Ford for their approval, which he got. With Ford, Carrol developed the Daytona Coupe Cobra and had great sucess in the World Championship. Ford then gave Carrol an unlimited budget to develop the at that time unsucessful Ford GT40, which was powered by the small block 289cu.in. (4.7L). Shelby rebuilt the GT 40's and fitted the Ford FE series NASCAR 427 engine (7L), with a magnesium inlet manifold and single 4 bbl carby, detuned to 580bhp. Ford won Le Mans 24 that year finishing 1-2-3, trouncing Ferrari and did so for the next 3 years running. Carrol Shelby was then asked to build special Mustangs for sale through Ford known as the Ford Shelby Mustang. The only chevs in Carrol's life was the lame attempt by GM sponsored Jim Hall with his chev powered Chapparal race cars, Regards Frank
