Just tried to add photos and the computer jammed up after writing a lovely little story......

So just the basics this time....

Is there a trick to fitting a windscreen seal? I seem to have a large gap between the edge o fthe seal and the windscreen.

I tried to fit the seal to the car first bit the bottom edge of the seal was longer than the frame so I couldn't get it sitting properly so I took the seal off and turned the windscreen upside down and tried to fit the seal that way and got the gap - see attached photo.

So, is there a trick to this or is the seal just the wrong size?

The seal was bought from a ruputable (I think) business in Victoria which specialises in rubber for older vehicles, so I would have assumed it to be the right size ... but maybe not?

OK , just for you I went down and measured a NOS rubber I have sitting there and I measured it at 1400MM top and 1535MM across the bottom from inside corner to inside corner.
Now I weighed the thing down with bricks but they have quite a memory after sitting in a plastic bag for 20 years.
However the inner length would not want to be too much more.

The seal is always larger than the hole you put it in the car first and tape it in place Then you have to place the screen in the gap in the rubber When the glass is in it will push the rubber into its proper place
Use plenty of soapy water to help roll the screen in ,use some putty knives to slide around the glass. You might need a person inside to push the rubber up Patience is the key

Had a chance to measure the new one and the old one today....

New 1585mm bottom (there abouts)
Old 1550mm bottom (there abouts)

so no wonder the thing doesn't fit!!

it's good to have another comparison.

I sent off an email to the supplier earlier in the week, so I'll see what he comes back with too.
