Disco 1 cruise control vacuum pump

I've isolated the leek in the cruise control to the vacuum pump.

Can the vacuum pump be serviced or do I have to get a new one?

I'm thinking that the rubber hoses are 13 yrs old and probably a bit porous by now.

..and if the vacuum pump is US, then I think a EA sort of series Falcon one is a useful substitute.

Yes, I can second that Falcon electric vac. pmps from the 1990s are very similar - just different wiring connectors, as I recall.

Any reason the factory cruise control can't be plumbed into the brake booster vacuum system? That's what I did for the aftermarket cruise control on my 300Tdi. Worked perfectly for many years until the actuator diaphragm started to leak.

    Hi Lindsay,

The one I used was a Command AP60. I bought it from a Supercheap Auto shop about 10 years ago now and it worked well for several years until the actuator failed. Don't know if SCA still sell them. Been meaning to try to get a replacement for a while now but...

I recall the kit was very comprehensive, with lots of fittings and odds & ends to enable it to be adapted to different throttle systems. The kit didn't come with a clutch cut-out switch to suit manual vehicles but I worked out a circuit to include this. You wouldn't need this with an auto.

    Ebay to the rescue:

Cruise Control Kit AP60 Universal Fit, DIY 1yr Warranty | eBay

I have fitted a couple over the last few years, including a 300TDi in a RRC and a 2.8TD Rodeo. Used brake vacuum in both cases, ran well that way.

You could just get in touch with Command themselves. They're an Australian company & carry parts for their cruise control systems.

Technical doo-dad called a tee piece, I believe the kit comes with one or two, otherwise buy one from a suitable shop to fit your brake vacuum line.
