Having just painted the chassis of my 1965 SIIa 109 rebuild, I fitted a rebuilt series three stage one V8 front axle on new parabolic springs and the first of two new long range under seat fuel tanks, which will compliment the rear stage one tank which is going in it making a total of around 218ish litres.......

This weekend I will be mating my freshly rebuilt series III gearbox to my five bearing crank 2 1/4 litre motor and popping it in

Its gonna be a long, but fun rebuild

    cheers

    last night

Took 'Fred' for a drive last night to the Land Rover Owners Club of Tasmania meeting last night.

I stood up in my newly appointed capacity of Activities Coordinator and informed the Club Members with details of upcoming trips for the month.

After the meeting was an excellent slide show of a 1960's world trip in a series one short wheel base, with also a set of slides of UK Land Rover owner club members taking part in organised trials.

Drove 'Fred' back home, beating the wife home from her work by half an hour and had the heater on with the kitchen warm for her when she arrived.

Walked around in the shed for an hour or two, looking at it, before deciding it was best to just go back to the house and make a cuppa.

It's not the lengthy list of things I need to do to it but the lack of tools needed to do so and funds to purchase those tools.

Fitted HD steering and track rods. Took some seriously hard yakka getting the old one off the steering damper bracket...

Worked out the bracket I need to make up to mount fire extinguishers between the front seats.

Sorted out the egt gauge placement and when the thermocouple fittings arrive next week will be able to finish it off.

Have spent the last few weeks adjusting the fuel pump. Make a change, take it for a drive, rinse and repeat on an almost daily basis. The tune had been completely botched by previous owners and i had no stock starting point to use as a base to work from.

Now have it running nicely with minimal smoke and doesnt need to be rowed down the road. I'm quite impressed with the change and lost the mystery vibration that felt like an out of balance front tail shaft at certain revs in 3rd and 4th. Turned out it was the engine getting too much fuel and was dialled out by adjusting the star wheel.

Wished I'd tackled it sooner, rather than thinking it was something best left to an expert as driveability has improved a LOT. Now just need to see what the egt is like when worked a bit.

    Topped, Hang and Toast

My wife complained that 'Daisy' her D1, was wetting it self and was it safe to drive?
Investigation by yours truly, found the cooling system intact, the trouble was instead the windscreen washer bottle, a leak underneath was the source of fluid in this instance.
So I topped the Wife up and sent her on the way to work, ( she has been working as a nurse for 41 years ).

This, the next morning I had time to do a load of washing and hang up the wife's laundry before AlexH arrived for work on the TD5.

The TD5 seats were in poor repair, so the middle seats that had been set to the automotive trimmers were back and now are looking like new. The front seats were in really bad repair, so two new overhaul kits were ordered from the UK and we set about replacing them.

The seat base has a pressed plate attached by spot welds to the seat frame, most of the spot welds had cracks along side them and the plate was letting go.
But I will be working on them on Monday, as I need to take tea and toast into SWMBO in the morning and then into 'Fred' to act as the chauffeur over to her mums for a visit.

Had another look at how to rig up the rack and pinion steering from the old Commodedoor to the Landy.
Thought a cold Coopers was a better idea, so ended up sitting on the patio again.
