Halfway through an oil change, dropped one of the rotor filter bolts
Might have to go fishing with a magnet if it's in the oil tub

Still can't find that rotor filter bolt, I knocked it towards the engine, it's the drivers side one.
Went magnet fishing in the oil, couldn't find it, doesn't seem to be on the ground under it, any ideas where to look?

Got my UHF antenna tested with a VSWR and was told the radio is putting out full 5W but 3W refected.

Repaced the cable, got it tested again. Was told there is nothing coming out of the radio.

Tested the cable and antenna only and told the connector was faulty so I got them to replace it with a crimp on connector. Antenna finally passed but I believe the reception was better with the connector I had soldered on.

Wishing I owned my own test equipment so I could learn how it works and what is good.

    Happy Days

I've used one of these for a few years and they great.

Saturday took it for a 160 kay round trip to Euston and back.
Then Sunday took it for another 220 kay run out into the Murray Sunset Park to "Mopoke Hut" for a barby lunch.
    Both enjoyable days!

Saturday: Finally chased down one of my FRH lighting bugs. Just a dirty 6-way bullet connector on the common earth. Also installed some shiny, new number plates to make sure it is nice and easy for speed camera's to identify the vehicle when my mum is driving it.

Monday: Took it over to Bee-uety's place for a slight tweak to the gas controller setup and to weld a washer over the elongated shock-mount hole. He also kindly drilled and tapped a hole in the tow-bar mount for a bolt to stop it rattling.

Serviced the 2a today. Dropped the sump plug in the oil tub, bit messy getting it out.

Interesting point - I have oil leaks from both diff pinion seals, swivel seals, and both transfer case output seals - yet I did not need to add any oil except for the change of engine oil. I seems a little oil goes a long way when it is making a mess!

I was struck again how good the brakes are on this vehicle compared to the problems others report on Series vehicles. All four wheels took one click on the front adjusters only, leaving about 30mm free movement on the pedal, wheels locked still have about 50mm to go before the pedal would hit the floor.

Squeaky belt due to 4 mm measurement difference

Found that alternator which came with a wreck, I had squirreled it away and was lucky to find it in my workshop.

It is a 100 amp Magneti Marelli and the temporary one that was giving trouble on 'Fred' turned out to be a 65 amp Denso ( which has crook bearings ), using this second hand alternator I have made the big swap today back to the correct 100 amp for that '97 model D1, but have run out of new belts so I put the best of a bad bunch on for now, then checked the cables and earth points - all good.

I don't know where that other 65 amp alternator came from but it maybe it's the one from 'Daisy', which I had better measure up as well as I found there is a difference between the two alternators of 4 mm between the outside face of the pulley and the first mounting face, this is between the 100 and 65 amp, both had small pulleys fitted and the 65 amp may originally had a large pulley.

'Daisy' now has a 100 amp and the belt squeaks so after finding that difference in measurement, I'm thinking that I should check out that alignment a bit more thoroughly.

Winched a tree out because I hate digging and dragged the trailer around collecting wood.

Finally did the shuttle valve mod, on my Disco.

I look forward to going for a drive without my three friends.

Did a **** of a job this afternoon.
Dropped the very dented tank guard off the D4.

Luckily, the moulded tank sprung back once the plate was dropped and has begun to reform to its original capacity.

    Fitted a new unit...

And to ensure it doesn't happen again...
