Well, I can report it costs $407 to replace the remote and key for a 2009 Defender, consisting of $220 for parts and $187 for labour, and Austral needs two weeks notice to do the job, so I recommend you don't lose yours.
The Navigator is acting rather sheepishly at the moment - that's all I'm game to say.
And you watch Mick, you'll get the job done and then find them ;)
Got the airconditioning in the County regassed. Not before time - hot today.

Having got the aircon in the County regassed I did some further work on it. This is an aftermarket, recirculating system (installed twenty years ago, and mostly gone well since) under a custom cubby box. However, one shortcoming is a tendency to collect dog hair on the fan side of the evaporator. To get at this involves pulling the whole lot apart, and even then working by mirror.
While doing this, the fan switch knob broke when I removed it - the obvious thing to do is simply to replace it. Not when you live 60km out of town it isn't. So spent a couple of hours first fossicking round for a suitable replacement (unsuccessfully) and then repairing the knob by turning a brass sleeve for it.
While at it I sorted out the junk in the cubby box, putting some of it in the bin, some where it ought to be, and putting what needed to stay there in several cloth sample bags.
Also adjusted the position of the steering wheel - a few days ago I replaced the lower U-joint on the steering column, and on the trip to town yesterday it was clear that I was out of position by one spline. It is a lot easier to remove and reposition the steering wheel than it is the U-joint.

So, got on the webby thingy and ordered the previously mentioned AGM from Australian Direct, which has a limited supply of 120 Ah Kickass AGMs going for only $279 (about $70 off normal price) including GST and freight. Great deal. Looking forward to its arrival next month. Then have to work out the best way to fit it on its side into the compartment I had included in the rear of the drawer, and hookup some plugs. SPROVER, for extra smooths grab the auto gearbox mounts as well. Not as expensive as the main mounts and make it that much nicer :cool:

Yep I think that will be next. There is only a slight vibration when I turn it off now. The whole car would shake before. But it is alot smoother to drive now.Quote:

I tackled a small wiring issue on the series 3. I fitted the new wiring for the new 80 ch uhf and mounting bracket. Need to get an aerial base now.
Removed the badly cracked l/h windscreen and fitted a second hand one i had for that purpose. Wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. Thought id have to remove the whole frame but it wasnt neccesary. Glued the new glass in place with sikaflex and refitted the strips and mirror. All good.
