Not on my Landy, but my D4 went into the smash repairers this morning because someone sideswiped "The Booger's" car trailer jack-knifing it into the rear corner of the Disco. The result is that I have to use the RRc while the D4 is in hospital, last week after replacing the A/C compressor and re-gassing it, the car wouldn't turn off. So yesterday after work I cut off the old ignition switch and install a new one, unfortunately sometime previously I have soldered the wires together, so now I have to disconnect and reconnect them.

    Nothing is ever simple.

Lets hope the problem was the switch!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Isn't a D4 a Landy? That could upset some people.

Well the weather was warm today but overcast till about 30 mins ago, so ive been outside working on the s3. I replaced the 35 amp alternator with a vs v8 commodore 85 amp one. I can now run at night with the lights on and the voltages stay at 14.2 instead of dropping down to 10 or less. Not finished quite yet. I also fitted a metal 5 blade fan to the 186. Bloody clouds took off so it got too hot in the sun so ive come inside now. Can feel my shoulders burning already. Will fit the new radiator when the skies darken a bit around 8pm. Some pics below.....

Dont get me wrong, id love to have one but unless x lotto sends me the money ill never own one. Id like to see what they are like when they're 40+ years old...

As for the s3, at least if it breaks down it wont cost me tens of thousands to fix, and i can fix it myself with out having a degree in automotive electronics...

Anyway, i do have a sense of humour, which we all have to have when working on series land rovers. So when the weather cooled down i finished off the wiring on the bigger alternator, and fitted my new radiator to the series3 (yes, with the holden motor:screwy::screwy:). Finally back on the road after the plastic fan fiasco. Still need to sort it out with the supplier.

    Cheers Rod.

    Smile defender 110 weight

I weighed my defender today 2300kgs, with me sitting in it. (84 kg)
main tank full, 42 l aux tank 50% . all recovery gear and some spares in the car. compressor, tank, maxidrive, winch and winch bar etc, the weigh bridge is amazingly accurate, it gives my weight to within a couple of kilos. cheers simmo

Some have the view it has to have leaf springs to be a Land as opposed to a LR etc
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
