Put the Passenger side wing back on the 109- plenty of cursing with the fixing plates until it occurred to me to shove a piece of wood down the back of them. That's going in the toolbox.
cheers,

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

The D4 is definitely a Landy, the issue is whether the MY85 RRc is considered a Landy or not.
At the time the Range Rover Club of NSW wouldn't allow Land Rovers on Club trips. The RRC NSW President at the time, Richard Asquith the principal of the dealership "Asquith & Johnson" was censured for taking a Perentie prototype on a club trip.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
And subsequently when the Discovery was released, the RRC NSW found that many of it's members were replacing their Range Rovers with Disco's so the RRC 'had to' allow Discovery owners to remain/become members of the RRC.
And a few years ago they even opened membership to all models that carried the Land Rover badge.

Ok today i stripped out the tailshaft from the s3. I had to remove the handbrake assy and find out why it was grabbing on. I replaced the output shaft seal 6 months ago but as soon as i filled the transfer case with oil it started leaking straight away. As the hoist i was using was needed, i left it until now so i checked it out as well. Took the drum off. Removed the hub and then the handbrake backing plate and shoes. All clean no oil contamination. I removed the seal and found it to be a loose fit on the seal surface of the hub. Went and got the other seal from the gearbox overhaul kit i bought a couple years ago from uk. Now both seals are the same part number on both packets and the seal itself. BUT, one seal is a single lip and the other is a double lip seal. The latter seal is a very tight fit on the hub. I cant believe that there could be such a difference in the two seals. Same packaging and everything, even in the same kit. See the pics below...
Anyway found that the handbrake actuator was siezed so i freed it up and lubricated it and put a boot on the back to stop junk getting into it.

Today i refitted the hand brake assy, drum and linkage to the s3.
Adjusted the shoes and tested, all good.
Filled the transfer case, no leaks this time. Hooray.
Went to refit the tailshaft and found the 40 yr old front u joint a bit tight in one spot.
I grease everything 3 monthly whether it needs it or not.
So i removed the slip yolk and removed the unijoint.
Went to local repco with fingers crossed. Would you believe it they had one in stock.
Measured it up just incase. Perfect.
So went and fitted said new u joint.
While i was at it i fitted a new boot to the tailshaft slip joint. Refitted the tailshaft.
All working good.
Thought i would see why the fuel gauge wasnt working.
Removed commodore front bucket seat to access top of fuel tank.
Earthed out the wire.
Gauge ok.
Removed the sender unit. Someone fitted it with silastic. No brains.
Anyway i found the float was full of petrol. I had an old one lying around so i fitted it and secured it with a cable tie. I tested the operation of the sender.
It was a bit erratic.
So i removed the cover on the swiper and retensioned the swiper arm a little.
Lubed the wires and reassembled it.
Tested.
Great.
Cut new gasket and fitted the sender unit.
Tested it again.
I found i got a 1/4 tank of fuel (16 gallon tank).
Refitted the seat.
Removed the steerling wheel as it was loose.
Removed the master cylinder and removed the brake pedal and booster.
Accessed the steering box adjuster.
Jacked the front wheels up and adjusted the box.
The adjuster went in almost 1.5 turns.
Filled the box up with oil. Refitted the brake pedal and booster.
Refitted the master cyl. Tested, all good.
Refitted the steering wheel and added a washer under the cancelling cam to tighten the top bearing a bit.
Drives really nice now. Not so much "sawing" the steering wheel now.
That was my Land Rover day.
Cheers Rod
