Chipped, no extra boost - 1.2 bar max. Perhaps the airflow isn't that bad but definitely not up to the specs JustinC suggests indicate a correctly functioning MAF. I'll let you know what difference (if any!) the new MAF makes.

Installed a pipe from my 101 cabin to the inlet manifold so I can squirt "Start You Bastard" direct into the engine to get it started when it is cold and has not been used in a while without having to pull the engine cover off.
Works well too.

Hey Mum, the recovery hitch is gone! the discovery of our loss was made at the back of our D1, this, the next morning late.
I now know what disturbed my flu induced catnap, while waiting in comfort of a Discovery's drivers seat, for the missus do her shopping in the centre Northgate.
I thought I heard a rattle whilst deep in slumber, the type of noises made when I pull my tow tongue out to install the recovery hitchpoint.
It took my wife arriving back with her armfulls of groceries, to complete my awakening back to this world, " You lazy old bugger, asleep when you should be awake. " She had made her point.
An old fellow once told me, " dont ever think things can get that bad that they can't get worse ".
So am I'm lucky ?? that they didn't take the Discovery and only took the hitch ?? , can't claim insurance as the excess is about five times the value of our loss.
Cheers Arthur
Walked past the Puma under the carport & thought gotta get that to the dealer & get a few things sorted again........PITA
Wandered past the D2 which is under the same carport & said to myself gotta have a peek at it before the camping trip next w/end.Couldn't find the keys, probably in the wifes handbag, she was out all day,so that was the end of that. The spare keys, well it's a mystery where they are ATM.
Then jumped in the van and went & did a job.
Oil & Filter, new fuel & air filters. Straightforward.
Cleaned the MAF last week, but didn't notice any difference in performance.
Maybe its fine, maybe not?
Decided that disconnecting it might answer a few questions: like is it working at all, and if so, is it doing anything useful.
So I disconected it and drove round the block - performance was utterly horrible - gutless and flat like a non-turbo diesel.
Re-connected and did same run to be sure - 100% better with it on.
This tells me a) my MAF is working, and b) disconnecting it (at least for my version of the TD5: late '03 D2a Auto, no egr or cat) is a bad idea. If that's what the default air value in the ECU map does to performance, I'll buy a new one if my MAF goes kaput.
Next maintenance items are coolant change, replace suspect hoses; front discs and pads, plus a couple of radius arm bushes and a track rod end. Then intercooler check & clean, check/replace turbo hoses, then onto all the other various fluids & filters.
Still loving it.
It was too late last night to write this up so you'll have to settle for "What did you do to your Landy yesterday". The story begins:
I got off the train and headed to the car-park to pick up DeeDee for the drive home. As I walked closer I thought "she seems to be leaning uphill". Sure enough, the drivers side rear tyre had the air at the top. Not ideal to be getting on for dark, in my day's business attire and having to change a wheel. Then to discover that the bottle jack didn't like life any more and had swapped some of it's vital life fluid for air
. Then the spare "scissor" jack was missing the handle!
Scrummaged about and found the big shifter, so used that one quarter turn at a time on the scissor jack. Slow but got there okay.
Got home and had a look at the flat tyre. Found a nice split in the tube to align with the split in the tyre sidewall:
This was one of the tyres that came with the $10 wheels, so I can't complain too much ... or at all really. So I grabbed another of the same tyre, and also a tube, from my pile of used spares, got my Tyre-Pliers kit out and the usual assortment of dishwashing liquid, overalls, rubber mallet and rags and set about changing the tyre. I'm getting faster at it because the whole process, including putting the original wheel back on the hub and putting the spare back on the bonnet, only took me about 1 1/4 hours.
Funnily enough, I got a flat on the pushbike on Saturday morning when out for a group ride. When back at the cycle shop for a post ride coffee and toast (weekly regular) and buying a replacement pair of tubes, the shop owner said "these things come in threes they say". I replied quite adamantly "nope, I fit new tyres and tubes at the first puncture and never have that 2nd or 3rd flat that everyone else does". Well bugger me - maybe he was right but it isn't contained to the same transport equipment?? I might check the wheelbarrow tyre tomorrow - hopefully it's flat and I can drive DeeDee the 125km to Harvey for work on Wednesday without worry.
Cheers

I have been waiting for the MAF to turn up, but in the interim have replaced the ACE reservoir to pump hose. The ACE fluid I removed was a dirty brown so obviously hasn't been changed in a long time. A full ACE fluid change has been added to the "to do" list.
I've also removed the turbo hoses and given them a clean and check for splits and cracks. The longer turbo to intercooler hose had a split through to the reinforcing mesh on the inside at the point it meets the edge of the intercooler pipe. Have ordered a set of Samco XDB silicon hoses to replace.
A courier has just dropped of the MAF - a Siemens/VDO 5WK9607Z OEM unit purchased from TD5Alive in UK - so will fit and give the D2 a run later today. It will be interesting to see if this makes any appreciable difference to the way the Disco drives.
There is a MAF FAQ on this page which goes into a bit of detail on dead and out of spec MAF's. The site is trying to flog a MAF tuning box for Rovers so ignore the recommendations to purchase

This is also worth a read:

Obviously the above isn't written for TD5's but gives some useful pointers to possible effects of various MAF issues.
cheers
