They warp, and break studs.
I'll be looking at that. Seems like 2 or 3 mm would do it. Just can't get the compressor to go back onto it's bolt holes. So, flatten the pipe a little, or attack the compressor, or put the original one back on... after I helicoil the thread I butchered getting the broken stud out. Joy.
Running that close to the compressor won't help its longevity (compressor).
Allisport and a few others tried tubular manifolds and they all fail - crack, break, fracture etc.
End result - better designed cast iron manifold.
Stainless doesn't like the heat loading and will fatigue and fail.
Hence the blanking plates etc are made of mild steel not stainless (which fails).
fitted a cargo net to the inside high spot in the rear of my disco one camper, no more sleeping next to my luggage![]()
