						Whatever you do get an engineer on-board FIRST, i've heard to many horror stories about big projects that can't get approved as the engineer didn't inspect it before they hit them with the grinder.

Yep I brought my ute with a engineers report. Quite a few pages. About six years ago it cost $1100. Very detailed. Starts with the bare chassis, this includes a check of the chassis for rust and overall soundness .Then covers each stage of the build including wiring and other stuff you would not think needed looking at. So your project would have to be mapped out in stages and each stage ticked of by the engineer. This is why as posted it is so important that you get a engineer on board from the start.

I'll look further into this and talk to an engineer, so far i've been told it's the chassis modification that needs the certificate. I thought the wiring was checked by the people at the pits otherwise everyone restoring a car would need a certificate.
Can anyone help with finding an engineer in Albany? Also are there many problems with the 3.5 V8 that I might not have heard about. I've already heard about the fuel economy.
Just scored a full rear crossmember from a IIA and it's in very solid condition. It's not an original but it's much heavier duty and I got it for $50.

						Get onto the stupid Department of Transport, who told me, "We do have a list of engineers, but it's not complete." You have to use an engineer they approve of, or else they might not accept the engineer's work. Or, find an engineer, and then get their approval before you start. Yes, it's idiotic, and they should have their lists sorted out, but that's the Perth-centric state government for you.

I got Preapproval for my 2a V8 off the department of transport no worries. I was using Dan Pitic from Endracon Engineering, he is popular with the hot rod and street car scenes. Follow the link to the list of WA approved engineers;

I want to get approval but I can't find an engineer in Albany so far an the department of transport haven't got back to me yet. I'm still confused about the pre approval thing. Will try to get onto the department again. getting close to picking up the Rangie. Again if anyone has an idea of any engineers in albany that would be great.

						Thanks for that. I'm working on a SIIA V8 as well and I might be in touch. But the problem is that I was told the list is incomplete, and it only covers Perth and a couple of areas nearby, and I was also told that I could drive my modified car to an engineer to have it inspected! Which would be 2500km!!!
I know a guy here in town who wanted a middle seat and anchor point put into his Monaro. So he drove it to Perth to get the job done. Lunacy.
Sooooo, get that engineer sorted out first before you bother with anything else. You might need a car trailer when you're done the thing!
Have you called Transport yet and talked to one of their life-like drones? If not, that's your next step.
