Would you happen to have the number for the department in Perth. I'm wondering if I can bolt things on instead of welding to get around the certificate problem. Just an idea, if you have the number that would be great.

Nup. Can't get around it. The engineer may want your bolted bits welded. It's still a modification, even if you use super glue and blue tac.

What about duct tape. Well thats what I thought about bolting things, you need a certificate on that too. My second option i guess is to do up the Range Rover and maybe cut it into a ute. The only problem is that the Rangies body is a bit rough and rusty in areas. I really want a 100" but it's a bit difficult to get an engineer on board at the moment but i'll get there when I get onto the department in Perth.

Step 1: Make a cup of tea.
Step 2: Get a whole packet of Tim Tams.
Step 3: Put on comfy clothes and get a pillow.
Step 4: Pull up your softest chair and move a foot stool next to it.
Step 5: Put a stack of 20-30 magazines next to the chair.
Step 6: Make sure you don't have to use the loo.
Step 7: Call 13 11 56, and have a good read of your first magazine as you listen to how important your call is but all our operators are busy but we'll be with you as soon as blah blah blah blah blah.
Step 8: Wake up suddenly from that enticing dream about you-know-who to hear that somebody is ready to take your call.
Step 9: Confuse them completely by patiently explaining what you want to do.

Sorry! I'm still mad at them. But that's pretty much it.

Thanks Davo, the number is what I'm after and you got it for me. They are difficult to deal with but unfortunately you have to deal with them. The step by step guide is useful, with how long it took me just to speak to someone at the albany office and I left my name and number and they still haven't got back to me and it's been a week and no sign yet.

Yup, you've got it right there. You'll just have to call every day - seriously, if you want results from these people, you have to keep after them. That's why you have to get this sorted out before you do anything else.

It would be far more sensible if they made the process quicker and easier. Then it would be good for them and good for us. But no, it's a state government.

Not long til we pick up the Range Rover. Have to speak to the department soon. What V8 is in your IIA davo, is it a 3.5. I'd like to know how a V8 IIA goes, What gearbox does it have? I'd love to put a V8 in my IIA. Not as a road vehicle just as a farm ute, this is when the 2.25 lets go.

No, I haven't done it yet. I'm just doing a copy of a Stage I really, using a 3.5 V8 and LT95 and the rest of the Stage I drivetrain. In the end, it will be pretty much a Stage I except for the bulkhead. I'm hoping this will help when dealing with the Department since it will be the same as what the factory designed.

Just say it's a stage 1, they're probably not bright enough to know the difference. Are you using a Range Rover V8 or one out of a stage 1, The Rangie engine has just a bit more grunt and probably easier to find. I hope to get around 180 Hp from mine, I only want 150 Hp when I'm registering it. I've heard you can get up to 200 Hp out of a 3.5 when it's tuned to the max.

Well, I might also rebuild a Stage I using the parts I've got, so that's pretty much the same thing. Whatever engine I use will be rebuilt anyway, but it will be for torque. I think with the Stage I engine the only difference was those silly restrictors in the intake, as everything else in it was Range Rover.

I was thinking of using a good used engine I have and getting it registered just to get it over with, and then rebuilding it. But - and I'm not making this up - I may well be driving to Perth to get it engineered, so the car will have to be as good as new, which it will be anyway, as that's the point of a rebuild.

At least I've got lots of time to worry about it as I slowly sort out the Range Rover!
