    No, no adverse effects noticed. Harmonic balancers are normally used to counteract engine ancillary harmonics for occupant comfort such as an alternator's vibration that's at odds with the engine harmonics a little above idle, perhaps around 1200-1300 rpm but I couldn't detect any change. If anything, I thought the engine could have been smoother above 2000 rpm.

    Do you still have the balancer ring?
    If so is the threads ok(or repairable)?
    If you find a second hand one check the bearing before fitting,(see link)
    I have only clocked a few thousand ks since rebuilding mine but so far so good
    Yes I still have the ring and I think the threads would be fine as the bolts are still done up properly. I am working on getting a new assembly at the moment but td5 still going strong without that half of the balancer.

    I'm guesing running without half of the balancer will be ok for a few weeks until
    i build the slush fund up to get a new one ?
