It would have been good to meet up indeed, but I wouldn't get anyone to drive for three days just to get a head gasket - I do appreciate the offer though. Have gotten some pretty top notch help and support so far, so I can't complain.

I saw that isuzu in the marketplace, but as Vern mentioned, a Range Rover with the isuzu engine and full drivetrain came on the market when my engine blew, so it's sitting waiting to be transplanted as we speak. Just need to get there...

    No worries

It wouldnt have worried me, be a good excuse and trip to see the red centre. I have a mate that lives in Alice, just moved over in August. Would have been good to see him. Anyway sounds like you are all sorted so hope it goes ok getting back to the south.

    Shot Engine.

Hi Mike, hope the first part of 2013 is better for you than the last part of 2012 was. We have all been following your engine saga ,blow by blow, on the Forum and there will be a collective "hoorah" all around Australia when we finally see the post that says "back on the road again!"
I ,too, am amazed at the help that has been offered by so many members.
    Cheers, Peter T.

I wish. Despite the best efforts of everyone here, I'm getting nailed by the abysmal postal service up here in Alice Springs. Defender is literally sitting outside Strangy's house, engine all assembled except for a head gasket. There's one floating in the ether somewhere between here and Brisbane, even have the tracking number, but the postal service are being almost moronically unhelpful.

One way or another it'll be going back together on Monday, as Suttons opens for business again on the 7th. Will let you know as soon as I'm putting the head back on.

[edit]I should for the sake of fairness add that it could be a lot worse. Cold beers are never more than walking distance away, and Strangy and family have been unbelievably patient with the smelly Irishman that's camped outside his house

    That ****es me off....

If the head gasket doesnt turn up in time mark it return to sender.

2 weeks is more than enough time for an express post package to get to the alice, I could have airfreighted one in from the UK by now....

Mike I feel your pain but the postal service in Alice Springs is vastly superior to most of NW Western Australia.
I hope it turns up soon

Hope my post wasn't taken the wrong way mate - I 110% appreciate you arranging to have everything I need mailed to me. It's completely a postal service screw up right now - nothing anybody can do
