Yep, we did indeed make it, fed, watered, showered and slept, so all is good. Today is empty-the-camper-van and return it day, this evening onwards will be sourcing all the additional bits and pieces for when the Defender gets here.

First impressions are good - the Range Rover looks exactly like what you'd expect an 83 Rangey to look like, but the engine goes like stink which I'm very happy with. Bloody scary the amount of power I have to play with compared to the 300tdi. Still deciding if it's the best purchase I've ever made, or the dumbest purchase I've ever made, regarding the work ahead of me, but the die is cast, so in the Defender it'll be going Am certainly looking forward to the end result.

Initial impressions are the engine has a few "unique features", particularly the exhaust manifold and turbo setup, I might post a few photos later on. Steering pump seems to be the three bolt variety - good or bad? Not sure if the course of action will be to get a stock manifold or not - will probably get advice from the isuzu guys later. Other things I reckon I'll need to grab will be a v8 rad (TRS have one for me), a wingless sump for ease of routing the exhaust, and an electric cutoff for the injector pump, to keep things simple.

If it was a Britz van going hell for leather for the border, then yeah, it was probably me.

The manifold is different, but its been on there for 15 years, so I'd say its proven

That's slow, better when you stuff a heap more boost and fuel in

You may need to fit a one-way valve into the fuel return line.

Has anyone past a Defender on the back of a car carrier yet?

I'm glad you made the trip without further event. Now you can enjoy some cooler weather between the hot spikes we get down he. I hope the Defender is on the truck and rolling south now. Probably plenty to do while waiting anyway.

Make sure you get plenty of pictures of the conversion and if time permits an extension of your build post so we can follow the next adventure.
    Cheers, David.

Well *I'm* here, but the Defender will probably only be leaving Alice today, and has to go to Darwin before it gets to Melbourne....

I am however, putting the time to good use - spent today pulling the Isuzu engine out of a Range Rover, and getting everything ready to drop it in when the Defender gets here.... Will post a thread about it tomorrow.

Well at least there's some movement eh?

Im pretty sure that you will look at this and laugh in years to come with the added bonus of a quicker Diesel Landy and a lot of interesting new friends.

Absolutely. The best part of all this is the people I've met - everyone who helped me out in the NT, and the guys down here. I know I have it good, believe me.
