Whats a madman ??? (besides the obvious lunatic description)
looks like you might have the wiring installed for the ems gauge. check under the bonnet for exhaust manifold probe fitted and maybe coolant hose fittings on th top hose.
you might only need to buy the ems1 to have all working. mine is velcro'd to the missing panel you need.

I think you will find that the wiring is for stuff like the sunroof , the interior light, the electronic rear view mirror etc. Most of that wiring appears to be in the harness whether the option is installed or not. It is just as easy to have 1 harness do all as have 10 for different spec levels.
I know with mine I just plugged the rearview mirror with auto dip and compass straight in to the factory plug.

    Cheers Scott

There is no plug on th e main wiring, it has been taped up, someone has cut them for some reason.

EMS ? I guess I know what that is, I know there is some sort of fitting in th e top hose, but no sensor in there....

I am not sure an EMS would be that useful, unless it can read and reset codes etc as well.....

I have 3 lights on the dash, which I seem to think everyone calls the three amigos, due to this and other, I am thinking it may be worth getting a diagnostic tool as someone also said I may be able to program some new remotes (I have none)

Someone has played around somewhat with this vehicle as it has bright lime green pipes on the way to and from the intercooler, I will next try and see if it has an egr blocking kit. It is also not obvious that the turbo is spooling, seem to have power, but no whistle from the turbo on this bus.... lol

Sounds like you may have silicone turbo hoses - keep them.
The 3 amigos - plenty of threads about them - probably and ABS sensor / wire problem.

maybe it is the additional wiring for the sunroof, etc.
you just need the cover piece, jag spares or someone like that will have one.

Purple and black wires are for the front interior light.
Sunroof wires are red and black, red and brown, and green, at least on mine.
Not sure what the green and black ones are.
Jag spares had some when I looked a while ago.
Mine has a bit of a non standard switch in place...

you wont hear the turbo "spooling" on this vehicle .....unless you have an open exhaust....you would definitely know if wasnt. my comment about the panel is my usage for it....

Yeah, thanks for the possible uses...I will fit something there ;-)

re the turbo spooling, I was thinking it must just be quiet, I guess the 2 tonne vehicle performs like a small hyundai or maybe like some other large 4cyl or small six if you floor it, if turbo was not working I would guess it would be like an 1980s small diesel truch like a dihatsu or toyota non turbo....in other words, holding up traffic from the lights...

I have noticed it has a lot of accelerator pedal travel, but hats probably a 4wd thing, my last 4wd was many years ago

It does, always shocks me when I drive my other car how much the Disco has.
I like it, I know exactly how much pedal I need to hold a steady cruising speed, and there's lots more for the stomp moments.
If you want a Td5 to move, you need to have a heavy right foot.
As opposed to Mums (slightly dented ) subaru liberty.
Just nudge the accelerator and oh hey, you're doing 160....
    ...Not that I'd know...
