I think the best insurance you can have in any engine is a quality oil pressure gauge. If you fit this and an EG Temp, boost pressure and oil temp gauges you should never fear damage to your engine from oil dilution or over heating. I also have a water level warning buzzer since I intend to keep my 2002 Defender TD5 for many years to come.
When an oil pressure gauge is installed take note of the pressure when cold and then when it reaches running temps early in its life are make note of these readings for future reference.
As your engine ages with higher mileage you may notice minor reduction in the pressure readings, this is normal due to minor wear to bearings and seals and if you have diesel fuel getting into your sump oil you will also notice a rapid reduction in oil pressure due to the dilution of the more viscous engine oil.
